Hey. I just need help with my homework here:

Nixon was elected in '68 - was he Republican? And did Gerald Ford replace him in '74? And was he a Republican as well?

Help is appreciated :D

A google search would reveal the answers faster. But I will answer for you.

Nixon was a member of the Whig party. He resigned in disgrace in 1970 due to insider trading. Ford was his Secretary of State, the next in line to the Whitehouse after the Vice President, who was George Wallace. Since George Wallace died only months before Nixon's resignation, the torch passed to Ford, who was also a member of the Whig party, but some believe he was secretly part of the Bull Moose party.

I hope this helps.

I'll give you the real answer...

Richard Nixon was a Republican. He ran in 1960 against John Kennedy (heh, a Democrat) and lost by 100,000 votes. Nixon ran again at the end of Lyndon Johnson's second term (Kennedy's vice president) in 1968 and won. Nixon resigned in the mid 1970s (1973 or 1974) and was replaced by Gerald Ford, a Republican who ended the Vietnam War. Ford left in 1976 for Jimmy Carter, a Democrat. In 1980, Reagan (Republican) became president, and stayed president until 1988 when his Vice President George Bush became president. After troubling economic times, Bill Clinton ran as a Democrat and won in 1992.
