My goals for my racing cockpit were as follows:

1) Arcade-ish looks from the outside.

2) Real car feeling inside without being fully enclosed.

3) As immersive as possible without motion (pet and kid safe)

4) Properly placed good sounding 5.1 audio.

5) Triple Monitor Display.

6) Place to keep keyboard - mouse - drinks - other.

Good god that is amazing man. I would say it looks really good already. I don't want to be nosy, but what do you do with your time and how can you afford that?

All in all that is pretty cool looking.
 
Great job, and with the 3 monitors it might make it my favorite one so far.
 
That looks AMAZING! Since you're asking for suggestions though, you can put the logitech sound control where the radio of the car would be ;)
 
ok lol so I posted this in the GT5:P section and didnt know it was moved here lol.

Now to answer some questions.

I work full time in sales and have always been into cars. I have a loving wife who understands me very well. :)

The side monitors dont work with GT5:P I'm hoping they will with the full version of GT5 though... you could do it with PS2 so im sure you'll be able to with PS3. When I play Live for speed or rFactor on PC all three monitors do work though. See my link on youtube.

The dash is out of a MKIV Jetta. I own a MKIV GTI so I figured it would be fun to make something similar.

I cannot put the logitech sound where the car radio would be because i'm installing a car deck with bluetooth, an ipod dock and 4 speakers with a sub. That way I can have car volume and a seperate car audio system for music and phonecalls.

Oh and yes - the e-brake works in GT5:P as well as the PC games. It's a real e-brake out of a car... I won't lie.. when someone comes over who's never seen it before I do get a bit of a chuckle when I pull the e-brake and the car starts sliding sideways..

lol and if you want to know how much it all costs to put together lol don't bother, lol, because I don't want to know either.. The paint alone was well over $100.00 and I still have a lot more painting to do... I try to not think about the rest.

I moved this in here since it had more to do with Steering Wheel & Racing Cockpits than GT5:P, however, I should've left a redirect in the GT5:P forum so you'd know where it'd gone. :guilty:
For some reason (Maybe I clicked the wrong button?) it didn't, but I'm glad you found it again.
Here's a quick tip for everyone's future reference though! In the little yellow box at the top right of your logged in screen you'll see a Welcome, "Your Username" message, under that are several links. If you use the "My GTPlanet" link, it'll take you to your user panel. On the left there's a link that says "List Subscriptions", clicking that will show you all the threads that you're currently subscribed to, so if something you've created has been moved, you can still find it there, provided of course that you're still subscribed to that thread.

Anyway, that's a really, really nice setup you've got there! :sick: <--- Green with envy! :lol:

Thanks for the feedback :) No problem on the thread move.. I would have caught on to it earlier but that was my first post here and it said it had to be approved so I kept looking for it in that first thread thinking "it probably hadnt been approved yet".

Oh man your PS 3 is owning the 360 or maybe they are just making love :dopey:

Since you have a triple screen I assume you are going to buy 3 xboxes and three forza 2 games or is that just for your pc games.

I have 4 Xbox 360's and 4 copies of Forza 2 (don't forget about the fourth screen for the rear view mirror)... but the Microsoft wheel sucks compared to the G25 so I don't even use it anymore.. Now since the G25 doesnt work on the Xbox 360 I cannot play Forza anymore either :( Oh well, I play rFactor and Live for Speed on PC and GT5:P on PS3. I'm hoping GT5 will support at least 3 screens - i'll buy two more PS3's for that if it does.

Even for single screen games like CoD4 or GTA4 it's still great to play in the cockpit because its so comfortable.. the leather seat can almost fully recline.. You sit right in the middle of the 5.1 audio system with the sub pounding into the back of the seat. I'm also hooking up cable TV and a single screen computer to the two outside screens so you can have your favorite show - or what ever sports game your into playing on the left screen - gaming in the middle and google or gtplanet.net on the right screen :)

What line of work are you in to be able to afford all of that. Whatever it is I want in on it, as long as it is legal. And if it's not legal send me a private message so no one will know I'm taking part in it.

didn´t you know the g25 wasn´t supported when you bought the 4 xbox 360 consoles. I agree the ms wheel stinks you could buy a cheap drive fx and drive with that. It´s for sure is no G25 but Forza 2 is a great racing game after all shame to miss out. Annoyingly you are faster with gamepad on it though.

Must say you are really hardcore :D. But then I just bought a cockpit for roughly 2000$ myself ;)

Yes, I knew the G25 didnt work on the 360 - My last cockpit had the option to switch wheels from G25 to MS wheel... but the MS wheel sucks so bad compared to the G25 that I said forget about Forza 2... Now every TV in my house is HDTV with a 360 on it that can stream anything from my media center or server in my basement.

Can't even imagine how it feels to drive with that thing... err or maybe I can, more like driving a real car?



I had a wunderbaum hanging from my desk lamp above my racing wheel back in PSX times, only thing I could afford for added realism(?) :D lol
