I was wondering..... for printing a photo in GT4 you of course must use have a USB printer. but isn't is neccesary that the game has to have the right software for the printer??....

or is it possible that you can use any brand of USB printer????...

Generally speaking, printers can use generic drivers to print. You'll get "something". To make use of all the great features of certain printers you will have to have software specially for the printer. So, again, generally speaking you'll be able to use just about any printer (nearly as I can tell), but to get good quality you'll have to have a printer which is suggested / recommended / supported / authorized ... by Polyphony Digital for Gran Turismo 4.

I believe a list is already being built?

From Eurogamer:

Sony also revealed that Epson plans to release a pair of new printers designed to work with GT4 in Japan this winter. The PX-G820 and PX-G920 will support 5,760 by 1,440 dpi resolution, with six and eight-colour printing processes respectively. Both printers will connect to the PS2 via USB port and GT4 should automatically recognise them. They won't be the only options of course, but for now it's not clear which other printers will be recognised.

Although is still not clear if "any" USB printer will be supported, at least you know it should be something like these Epson...

Hopefully it's a quasi-version of PictBridge or something so it's compatible with just about any photo printer.

Just bought a Canon Pixma 5000 - so I can't wait to see. ;)

I don't know the standards / capabilities for "PictBridge" - is it possible to transfer pictures to alternative digital media? So that I could ... copy to an external USB drive and take it to work and print it on my $35,000 color laser printer on 12" x 18" high quality paper? You see, it doesn't have a USB port ... (:

I was wondering about this, too.. I have a USB printer that can print photos, but it's not a "photo printer" (meaning one of those end-user models with the slot for camera cards, where even a monkey could print pics from a digicam). Hopefully it doesn't require one of those.. that I could just take my USB printer downstairs, plug it in, and that's it.

Although I would prefer to be able to save the images out to another format, transferable to the hard drive. All these sites showing examples of the Photo Mode images had to get them into the computer somehow, yes?

Yes and no. PD isn't exactly running the game on a consumer model Playstation 2, and they aren't exactly running a consumer version of GT4. They're making the game, so they can do whatever they please with the software.

Also, I've not seen any high res images that are actually high res. They're just really nice pictures of some really good looking scenes. Those can be captured with a TV card in a computer.

I saw a post on a japenese site that showed a list of GT4 Epson compatible printers, The list was quite extensive, and mine appeared on the list (830), so im happy.
Im sure PD will build in a lot of printers, aslong as they are capable of reasonable colour picture images.

I hope you can transfer it to your hard drive in some manner. It would be sweet to make your own desktops from your own cars.

Oh well, I have a reasonably okay USB printer, although I don't see much use for printing a bunch of useless papers that I'm gonna be throwing out anyway.

I just hope someone writes some capture software (sorta like the MS Office to PDF drivers) so we can easily transfer the pictures to PC.

But if Epson supports GT4 maybe this NSX will be in.
