hi,
i just recently bought a ps2 initially for my kids and b4 u know it, i'm hooked on gt3, gta vice ct, need for speed underground etc.......
the unfortunate thing though is that only after a couple of weeks from my purchase, the ps2 gave DRE problems. it keeps going to the browser window, the one u c when there no cd inserted. sent it for repairs which cost some money. now its symptom changed to " games freezing during play"......just wondered if any of you guys have the same experience and could probably help me out. could it be the lens/laser etc? did anyone came acroos this and able to fix it...maybe it just something that i can DIY......appreciate ur help.

u can also contact me at azlanz01@yahoo.com

You should've called Sony at 1-800-345-SONY. If it was just a few weeks old, it still should have been under warranty.

Even if the warranty was void, they still would have fixed it for free, they did for me, if you said the magic words. (Law Suit. Because the PS2 has well known DREs which denotes a design flaw, and we don't have to pay for their mistakes.)

Also, try standing the PS2 upright. Trust me, it works.

I honestly have had very few disk read errors. I concider myself fortunate in that department. However! I have had plenty of controller malfunctions which I believe are due to faulty connector ports. Usually I just unplug and replug with a little wiggle action and it seems to work for the rest of the session.

I put in my Sharkport while back when I bought the new SCPH-500001 verison of the PS2. It did the same thing my SCPH-300001 did. The "Not-A-PS2-Disc" came up. Whats the problem here. It does it to this day...

ITs not your ps2 with the shark port, its the shark port disk, mine did that too...I guess its because the product is not officially licensed by sony and the method they use to burn the disk is faulty. i never get this screen unless its the sharkport disk or the disks that come with gamepro magizine...
