Problems with 1080i Using Component Cables

I recently purchased a brand new Samsung DLP TV and Cyclone Component Cables from Circuit City. I tried playing GT4 on it in normal mode, everything seems fine and graphics are beautiful. Then I went into Options and switch it to 1080i (HDTV), the graphics look much more detailed and clearer than before!

However, there is one drawback that I found in 1080i. There are these vertical lines that I see throughout the screen, especially on the ground where the color's mostly solid gray. If you focus on it enough, they can also be seen on the windshields during replays.

At first I thought this is a problem with my TV, which's called vertical banding. However, there is no signs of vertical banding whatsoever while playing other ps2 games or viewing DVD movies using the ps2.

So basically the problem only appears in GT4, under 1080i and the 4?0p mode (460p i think).

Has anyone else ever noticed this problem?

Feedbacks will be appreciated, thanks.

I'm using the Monster components in 1080i mode for my 55" DLP from Mitsubishi, and it works great, but the game doesn't seem to want to remember my settings. Other than that, it looks superb to me.

Other games and DVDs don't use 1080i. DVDs will go to 480p max out of the PS2, and the older ones won't even do that.

There was another thread very early after the game was released detailing problems people had with 1080i on some sets.

I would say that your problems are that your TV has a native resolution of 720p, and it's trying to convert the 1080i signal. If you had a 1080i TV, you wouldn't have any issues. As an FYI, you must set the 1080i every time you boot the game. Also, after much observation, I've concluded that the 1080i resolution only affects the cars themselves. The tracks are still 480.
