Hi there,

I've just been trying to edit this post to include race descriptions of the Super Coupe Pick'n'mix to the results thread. I added the first three races and hit "Save Changes" but now it doesn't show the changes but the original post.
Even more worrying, is that now I go back to "Edit", then "Go Advanced" and I get this:-

Where has all the info gone? Why can't I edit it?
And why does it still show up in the thread as though nothing has changed?

Please tell me I don't have to construct the whole damned thing again? :scared:

Well, it did the same thing to me when I tried to edit it as well. I don't really know what to tell you, though the entire first post is there in real life, it's not in the edit window. It unfortunately also doesn't show up in the Quote window.

I'd say it's possibly too large, but I'm not sure.

Wow, that’s strange. Even when you double-click the Edit button (which, BTW, is a shortcut to the Advanced Editing page), it still shows up empty.

Problem indeed.

Noticed Jordan having a little nosey at the thread before while I was editing the Day 2 results, so hopefully he's got his investigating head on, and will figure this out for me!

Yes, this is quite a strange problem. I looked at the thread using various other template sets (including the default vB templates), and the post didn't show at all, and of course any attempts to edit the post were empty as well. It's not even visible in the source code, which tells me that that something is going on between vBulletin and the database. When you first edited the post without problems, was it before or after we moved to our new server? I suspect it may come down to an obscure setting or configuration change between the different installations.

I made the original post, just the pictures and captions on the original date listed, and then followed up with the race description text later on before the server move.
I tried to edit after the server move for the first time yesterday, which is when the problem occurred.
Hope that helps!
Glad you like the SFGTP t-shirt too! ;) You should post a picture of you wearing it in the thread!

Any news on this?
Do you have a backup of the old post from before the server move? 💡

I have all the text copied into a wordpad file, but it's missing the picture links which aren't listed. I'd hate to have to upload them all again and go through the rigmarole of entering captions and vB code to get everything looking right again though. :grumpy:

I'm sorry, Smallhorses, but things aren't looking good for the post. Oddly enough, it is not present in our backups, nor does any content of the post physically exist in the database when I run a few queries by hand. This directly contradicts the fundamental way our forum software functions and operates, and it is not something that I can understand. I will explain the problem on the vBulletin support forums, but I already know exactly what the response will be. At this point, there is no way for me to recover the raw contents of the post, so I would recommend editing the pictures back into the raw text that you have recovered. Sorry I can't do more here, but this is quite an unusual issue.

This happen in my post as well for my Suzuka Time Trial.
Could you provide a link to your post?

Oh well, no worries, I suppose it'll remain as it is for a while for now until I get time to fix and repost it with picture links.

Thanks for investigating. 👍
Closing this now so it doesn't waste space.

Jordan

Thread opened again. This is bloody annoying. Post 2 and Day 2 results have also now disappeared. Not funny. Same thread, 2 dead posts. Why?
Please investigate further with vBullitin folks.
They have to have an answer for this.

If they can't answer you'll have to ask why?!!!

It sounds like the thread itself is severely corrupted.

I'd recommend that you start a completely new thread and paste the text into it. I realize that means redoing the formatting and pictures yet again, but I don't think continuing to rely on a corrupt thread is a good idea.

After you get the new thread up, I can close the old one and delete it. I'm sorry that this is giving you so much trouble.

OK, I've spent the past few hours investigating this further on my own, and I think I've identified the problem. Unfortunately, the solution to that problem is not working as it should. Nevertheless, I have converted your two posts into the vB-tag "source" code and saved them in text files for you, so you don't have to worry about losing the content of your posts. I'll reply with an update once I figure out a solution.

Hope this means Smallhorses will be in a happy mood this evening.
First a naughty machine in the lab; then a naughty thread.

Thanks all

PS: I tend to spot a lot of 'errors on page' exclamation signs in the bottom left of the browser window when viewing a lot of threads. I'm sure Smallhorses will help me.

Ok, having tried to cut & paste from the text files that Jordan supplied, I now know what the problem has been here. Duke was right all along, it was due to the massivivityness of the post! :guilty:
My original Day 1 post was up to almost 38000 characters!!!! When I edited this back into the first post and tried to preview it, it gave me an error message saying that the maximum post size for this forum is 22000 characters!

There we go! Now we all know! 22000 characters is the upper limit for post size!

I've corrected the issue by splitting Day 1 results into the first 2 posts and will repost Day 2 results in 2 consecutive posts later in the thread! 👍

Thanks again for your help in retrieving my info Jordan!
I owe you an SFGTP2 T-shirt for your assistance! :D

Well now that I know the problem I will just have to start a thread for my leaderboards.
Because my one time trial has 117942 characters:eek:.
