Problems with settings

I tried following the settings off Cudaman's guide, but i found that his gear ratios are impossible...... i bought the full custom tranny and set it on auto 24 like it says but i cant seem to get the first gear below 3.001 (whereas cudaman has it set on 3). Then on some other gears, the gap becomes bigger and bigger...

And another thing, when i turn off the TCS, my car revs like crazy in first gear for like....10 seconds before it goes into second.
Just wondering if drifting cars are supposed to be like that, or theres something wrong with mine.

well usually its better to do ur own settings, like start off with stock with mayb springs and TCS and ACM off, and using sims, but u'll tweek the other stuff laster one u get used to it, but as for the gear ratios, dont even bother, jsut pop teh auto to around 23 or 24 and u should b good to go, it keeps tehg ears real close for faster accel

oh and also, i had the same problem, what u do is either start of in 2nd, or dont floor the accel, slowly press x down until u reach 2nd and then u can floor it as much as u want, u'll get the feel of teh car eventually, jsut PRACTICE!!!!

the easiest way to learn is for me . dont put lds, weight red, & turbo than set the final gear to 20 than use lot of feint ...
dont forget SIM TIRE ...:)

its really ahrd to feitn with cudas settings though, thast teh problem, but i eventually got the hang of it, whatever u do dont feint drift it, the momentum will make the rx-7 spin out

I don't even see why there's a settings depots. Either the n00bs don't use it and bother us with questions, or the bother us with questions anyway because they don't know how to drift. I say just replace it with a DO IT YOURSELF post instead.

Drift cars are supposed to do that - in fact most of the cars with any significant tuning will do that off the line with TCS OFF, regardless of settings.

You realise that the PS2 controller buttons are sensitive to pressure right? Ie, don't press so hard on the throttle off the line ... and vary your pressure to vary the throttle mid-drift.

Just mashing it to the floor won't get you anywhere.

This is one of those reasons a steering wheel and pedals helps so much...

edit:
As others have said, technique is more important than settings.

Try (for example) an FC3 RX7, 180sx, or even MX5 with chip, race exhaust, race flywheel, 3 plate clutch, sim tyres, stage 1 weight reduction, and traction control and stability control both off (no other mods).

Concentrate on getting drift to start happening with late braking while turning or feint motion - then once you're used to that start trying to use the handbrake from further back... and try adding a stage 1 turbo kit or stage 1 NA tuning. That should be plenty of horsepower.

You really shouldn't need a "drift setup" to start off with - trying to use someone elses really tail happy setup while learning won't really help I don't think.

nutter.

its good to start off trying other ppls settings but u have to discover ur own style. i started out with the RX7 FC and FD. for me the FD was the easiest to drift. wut i did was that i used someone's settings and found the best one and changed it a bit to match my style.
