David Richards', (ex-BAR Honda Team Principle), motor racing corporation appear to be considering a move into F1 in '08 depending on cost reduction levels.

And they are to attempt to get planning permission for a new state of the art facility in Warwickshire, England.

So do you think its possible that for the 2008 season we may be seeing DR back in the game?

I remember reading a bit about this the other day.

The fact is that Prodrive is looking to build a motorsport engineering facility that could eventually, maybe, probably house F1 activities. But there's nothing more concrete than that. The facility would be built at an airfield, but McLaren faced a lot of questions before being allowed to build its Technology Centre in Woking and that had no test track involved.

I don't think it's realistic to talk about this being done and the building be ready in time for 2008. David Richards on the other hand, isn't the most liked fellow around, so probably handling him and his ego woun't be the easiest of duties either.

He did an excellent job with BAR carrying them to 2nd in the Constructor's Championship in the '04 season. After BAR gave him "the can" they haven't been the same since.

Since DR has such good links with Subaru, maybe we could see F1's first Subaru-engined car? After all, they did use a WRX engine for their P2 concept car...

Well, Prodrive racepreps alot of cars, such as the Ferrari 550 and the Aston Martin DBR9, but sure, the Subaru connection is their best. But I can´t see Subaru out of the WRC any time soon.

It's certaintly a possibility. DR has always expressed his willingness to come back into F1 at some point, and this seems like the best way to do it.

Too late.

In 1989, Motori-Moderni created a Flat-12 enigne, and allowed Subaru to badge it. Minardi tested it, but didn't see any real gain in the added weight of such a large engine, not to mention the added fuel. In 1990, Team Coloni tried the engine in the back of their car, but it never qualified for any F1 race all season; in many cases it never pre-qualified. Bertand Gachot was the driver of the single-car operation, and he wound up in the new Jordan team the following year.

Thing is, prodrive is a big name in motorsport, like Toyota or General Motors in the automotive (commercial) industry. I think a prodive team would be something like Red Bull. Bring it on!!

I think Prodrive would do good in F1, so yeah, bring it on!
Is there an upper limit on how many teams/cars can participate in F1? There is a lower limit (18 cars I think. Or was it 15?). I think I have some vague memory of 26 cars, but that could have been a dream. Does someone know?

From the sporting regulations:
2006 Sporting Regulations
No more than 24 cars will be admitted to the Championship, two being entered by each competitor.
