Ok, ProEngineer isn't exsactly your average mainstream kind of computer program, basically its a CAD program which I am using at university.... There is however a problem, I cannot make it run it on my computer.

Basically once I have installed it all and come to double click the icon to load it the splash screen appears and then dissapears then the program does not come up... It is one of these problems where you wish there was some kind of error rather than nothing happening..... I was hoping maybe someone with computer knowledge of why things just dont load could help me out.

It installed fine on many peoples computers and laptops and mine is quite new with a 3200+ Athlon 64 and a ATI Radeon x550 and it does not load which really frustrates me because I need to use this program for my course.

I thought maybe it could be conflict issues so I am going to fresh install windows and install it first hoping that will make a difference but all my friends have loads of rubbish on their computers and it works fine.

Because ProE is like an industrial program they offer very little tech support plus these kind of programs are very hard to find help for on the web in forums etc...Im thinking it may even be graphics card issues seeing as its a 3D modelling program..

Basically whats wrong when something doesn't load in windows..... the kind of open answered question which boggles the mind as much as is there live on other planets......!

Please can anyone help...... you would be saving my education!

Robin :)

They actually let you use it on your puter? You might actually have to call support if your school can't help you. Isn't the license and stuff not a simple process of just entering a cd key too?

Yes they do, but because its a student version you dont get like the proper tech support from the company..... and no this isnt like any other program... its kind of wierd because its used in industry to help is alot harder to find...

The university has not got a clue why it does not work.... and to be honest I dont either... its beyond me that why I was hoping someone here would be able to help because there are some really clever people here...:)

 We had to use Unigraphics NX and they didn't even supply a manual and nobody knew wth they were doing. They were planning to let us put it on our laptops but some people had already got a copy of it and figured out how to get around the license. :scared:

I'd say your best bet is ask classmates. Since it's legit the teacher or tech person that installed it on the schools computer should know something about what your problem is.

I had this exact same problem with Pro/E. Are you using 3rd party drivers for your x550? (Omega, DNA, etc.). Don't. Use official catalyst drivers, and it should work. Worked for me.

Happy drafting.

Thanks for the reply.... yes I have been using the catalyst drivers from ati....I just updated them the other day..... since I first came across this problem I have tried more things out to make it work...

1. I tryed installing new graphics drivers...... didnt work
2. Tryed installing on a different user (hoping that without any other programs any conflict issues would be avoided).... didnt work
3. Was going to fresh install windows but decided that would not solve the problem.

After having a look round many websites and pro e forums I have finally come to the conclusion its to do with graphics and nothing else..... Ive adjusted the opengl settings, lowered windows graphics acceleration but it still doesnt work.......

There are afew things I have left to try, but I dont know if they will make a difference.....

Try different resolutions and screen refresh rates aswell as different windows themes......

Its really annoying now because I need this to work for my course... and it works even on other peoples old laptops!!! Hopefully pro e 3 which is out this summer should work...... but i need to use this software now..

If anyone has any tips I would really appreciate it.....

Did you have to follow any procedure to activate or register the software? If you didn't and you're not sure if you're supposed to, ask your friends if they had to. We had to use Together Control Centre and to use it we had to get a copy of the uni's license from Systems Support. There could be a similar system in place with your software.
