I am a pretty handy dude but have had little time with the holidays and GT5 coming out that I have been blowing my son off with his request for a playseat "HE" can use. Being almost 7, he cannot sit in my seat and reach the pedals and the other wheel I have (the gamestop $59 one) has nothing good to mount too which with a 6 year old only leads to frustration. He has always had a natural talent for driving and riding anything (like his dad
).
My ride and his mini-me custom powerwheels stripped down, painted, detailed where possible and decals made (by a graphics friend) by myself when he turned 3.
Anyway, I have thought long and hard about structure, material, strength and specific needs of a kid. Posted a question in the wrong sub-forum too see if anyones done this before but no response, discovered this thread last night after the completion of the build.
So here it is start to finish:
layout of PVC 1" tubing, hacksaw and imagination-Tunes flowing-B-spec racing to level 24............................priceless.
Start with dismantling an old carseat we had in the basement that really makes a great racing seat for him.
NExt pics are just the series of construction, layout the positioning of the seat, pedal board and wheel then adjusting the tubing along with foreseeing structural rigidity and 4 hours later it's done:
The finished product:
I lent him my mini-cooper to race in level 0 ? clubmans cup ? automatic and all assists on (he's only 6!) and he finished 2nd 1st race
1st 2nd race
1st 3rd race
what a difference the right tools make.
HaHa, the dog blends in with the couch so well I didnt see her until now!
