I'm surprised something about this hasn't been mentioned already.

Craig Pollock, formerly of British American (in)fame has annouced plans to join the 2013 Formula 1 grid as an engine supplier with Propulsion Universelle et Recuperation d'Energie, also known as PURE. Not only will PURE be Formula 1 third independent engine supplier (after Cosworth and - technically - Renault), but he reckons their planned engine is the first of the next generation of Formula 1 engines and will be on the dyno before year's end.

So, what do we make of this? Personally, I welcome it - diversity on the grid is always a good thing, especially now when there is only a handful of suppliers. Hopefully PURE will be able to thin the engine politics of the sport out a little more.

This is the first I've heard of such a thing. I welcome it as well. It's a good a time as any to come in as an engine supplier when the engines change to 1.6L turbos.

Well, it's only just been announced. I checked Autosport before I left home this morning, and there was nothing; the stories had been added some time before I got back.

Probably because its not really very interesting news and there isn't much to discuss.

This company is taking quite a gamble considering those engine regulations are still being discussed, not everyone agrees its the right way to go and possibly the regulations will change.
More independent engine suppliers is great, the more we move away from relying on car manufacturers, the better. However, its always healthy to have some interest from them, and engine supply is the easiest method for both the teams and the manufacturers to gain something (as other sponsors can be used on the car and the manufacturer still gains something from having the engine referred to in various media forms). The FIA and FOTA will undoubtedly be considering the engine regs with regards to interesting more car manufacturers in investing and if most of them don't like the currently proposed and planned inline-4 turbos, then its very likely they won't happen.
