This is a thread that I don't think has ever been done before. ;) As the title states, list the pros/cons of your house. (or houses for the super rich GTP members, you know who you are) Be honest.

Pros of the house we're renting now in Hell, USA (New Jersey) :

it's close to all major shopping and school
decent sized backyard
central air (hope it works when June comes around)

Cons:

it's small as hell (compared to our house in SC)
only 1 small bathroom for 4 people to share
the windows in my room leak really bad when it's raining
the house is very energy inefficient
the washer and dryer are in separate rooms *the dryer's in the kitchen  *
all the windows desperately need to be replaced
the owner's wife never cleaned *it was fun cleaning when we first moved here :yuck: *
the stove needs to be lit by a grill lighter
some rooms in the house are colder than others
it's not in a very good neighborhood (I've renamed our street Crack Alley)
the rent's $1500 a month (not bad for NJ, but the house needs major renovations)
neighbors are the most inconsiderate ones we've ever had
the house is some 50 yrs old, give or take 5 yrs
my bedroom feels like a prison cell
there's no room for people to walk side by side in hallways
we can't even sit outside on a nice day because of the neighbors
all the houses on our street are very close together
located right by US 1, so there's lots of road noise at all times of the day

Pros of our house in SC:

4 of the houses in NJ could fit inside this one with room to spare
2 big bathrooms
everything's powered by electric (electric hot water heater and heating)
the central air units (the house is so big, it has 2 AC/heating units) are very efficient
4 big bedrooms (one's used as a computer room)
it was just built in mid- 2004 as a 2005 model
front and back porches (the back one's great for bbq's, or watching SC thunderstorms  )
located in a very quiet neighborhood near Lake Marion which is known for excellent fishing
friendly neighbors
giant front and backyards
spectacular scenery nearby
my grandfather's only 26 mi away, compared to 670 mi currently
giant living room/den
fully loaded with the land, it only cost around $105,000 (on mortage though)
4000 sq. ft total, 3000 sq. ft living space

Cons:

it's located 12 mi from town, but when we got used to traveling the distance, it seems like nothing
some of the central AC/heat vents aren't exactly placed in the best places (one's in front of the icebox)
our dirt road turns into a river whenever it rains :p

Pros-

-Old architecture
-hardwood floors
-oak door and windowframes
-high ceilings
-4 levels (including basement)
-downtown (not a huge city thank god)
-close to school
-new driveway
-new roof
-great neighbourhood

Cons-

-old, VERY old
-large, but small rooms
-tall ceilings
-doors and windows don't have very good seals
-basement leaks a bit during fast/hevay melts
-bats in the summer
-needs new wiring
-my room is ugly (think the green pea soup that Regan pukes up in The Excorcist)
-radiators take a long time to heat up, but a long time to cool down (and can get VERY hot if you aren't careful)
-hot showers don't last long if you have the heat on (radiators)
-preppy neighbourhood won't let me blast Marilyn Manson out the windows at 4:00am
-break-ins nearby (neighbour caught a guy across the road breaking into a Mazda 3 while waiting for Pizza at 2:00am)

But other than that it's great.

House no. 1 in Windsor

Pros:

Parents have owned it for 25 years, very homely
5 bedrooms
4 bathrooms
large family rooms
on a hill (good view)
secluded
2 miles from the centre of Windsor, 30 mins from London
rooms get redecorated fairly often. mines got wood floor :sly:
reasonably large front and rear gardens
nice road/neighbours
Rediculously quite at night

Cons:

Parents live there
5 miles from Slough
Large rooms don't heat very well, my bedroom is always cold.
No one has ever heard of Windsor, so living there sucks. Everyone knows Slough though. Great.
ADSL modem

House No. 2 in Leicester

Pros:

Parents don't live there
My house mates consist of 3 cool 20/21 year olds
4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms
large kitchen for size of house
2 fridges
Cable modem
108 miles from Slough
Small bedroom is always cosy
10 mins from uni
1 min from nearest shop
5 mins from Leics west end
Nice enough neighbours. They didn't complain when we raved to Prodigy at 4 in the morn after a big night out.

Cons:

Looks like a student house, rooms are plain white, carpets are rubbish
No gardens at all
Bills
Have to cook, in dirty kitchen
Small bedroom + single bed
Crappy shower
2nd bathroom is downstairs at back of house, has no curtains, is always cold

Pros:

- 10 miles from town
- Beautiful scenery
- Neighbors are far away
- 12 acres of land
- Lots of animals
- No noise (except animals ;))
- The 2 neighbors that we have are both great
- Big windows on the house
- Nice view from a cliff

Cons:

- 10 miles from town (25 miles to school)
- Going anywhere means a commute – we can't "just go for a quick drive to the market"
- Road isn't county-maintained, potholes galore
- If freeway is closed (and it occasionally is during the winter), I have to take "the back road" to school, which takes a half-hour longer than taking the freeway would
- We're smack dab in the middle of (DRY) national forest land, so every year our house gets threatened by wildfires
- A bear could eat me

I'm at college now so I will do mine about my dorm. Maybe later I will do my house.

Pros
-Friends are close
-food is close (vending machines dining halls)
-Fast internet (compared to the 56k I have at my house)
-Beautiful sunsets (campus overlooks a vally)

Cons
-My roommate doesn't shower...........ever
-Though we have fast internet, it often goes down or has hude ping spikes
-My hall smells (partly my roomates fault)
-it's not exactly big
-The walls are thin and my neighbors like to play piano at ungodly hours
-All classes and parties are on the other end of campus
-random people walking drunkly through my hall late at night after I have gotten back from wandering the halls drunkedly.
-It's too hot in here
-The food sucks

Thats all I can think of.

Hmm .. I'll do my dorm room as well.

Pros:
Friends are close
Food is close
Uber fast internet that NEVER goes down or decreases in speed

Cons:
Small (10x12)
Closest class is a 12 minute walk away
Community Bathrooms/Showers
There's one guy that smells like leftovers from last millenium at the end of the hall
Six flights of stairs because the elevators are always broken or don't want to open
The elevators are always broken or don't want to let you out
Fire alarms at 3am because dumbarses don't know how to cook popcorn in a microwave

Thats all that I can think of right now.

Pros
- Great city to live in
- Brand new
- Only neighbors are a funeral home and a quite guy
- Fully funished basement
- Wet bar with beer tap!
- Three bathrooms
- 3000 square feet
- Air conditioned and heated three car garage with drywall, insulation, and epoxy floor. Also high speed internet!
- Two fire places
- Huge backyard
- Deck and a patio (for big parties)

Cons
- Right on a friggen main highway
- Can't use the sweetest garage ever since my mom's shop is in there
- Really high tax area
- Big driveway that people turn around in

I will type mine tomorrow. I just wanted to say that I don't like these threads much because they make me feel jealous. I see what others have that I don't have. I will just say quick that I have a 4,500 sq. ft. house 34 miles from the city. I like the house, but am too far from the city. Houses here are gold plated. A 1,000 sq. ft. house may cost in excess of $200,000. The avg. house here costs quite a bit because most people live on one of the 5 lakes in our town, which is one of the richest in the state.

God real estate's a b*tch in Ontario, too. A 1500sq foot house in downtown Guelph goes for in excess of $450,000.00. Ours has been on sale for the past 2 years at $548,500.00

Pros:
Completely Re-built in 1996

Cons:
Small
Smelly
Small
Parents and Sister live there
Dirty
Small
No sidewalks
Gravel and Mud driveway
Muddy walkway to the garage and driveway
Small
Smelly
Once Flooded (back in 1996)
Did I mention it was small and smelly?

You think you have it rough? I live in the thrid richest area in the United States. A few miles from my house is the biggest home I have ever seen in my entire life. It's supposed to be like 50,000 sq ft. with 50 bedrooms and what not. I'll try to get a picture of it.

Did you know that a Toyota Corolla Verso can swallow another Corolla Verso in component form?

CorollaVerso.jpg

Pros:
  • It's big
  • It's a two story house
  • comfortable
  • AC/Heater
  • leather couches
  • big TV
  • a backyard not too small yet not too big
  • live in a coldasac(sp?)

Cons:
  • Live right next to a freeway sound wall(at least we are about 100+ feet above the freeway)
  • gets really cold or really hot(barely ever just get warm days)
  • our living room is too small for a pool table
  • my room really small
  • Most of the leather couches have to be covered wiht blankets because of the cat

I like our home very much.

Good to see you around, Doug! :D

Blackbird
It's a two story house
I see that as a con though. I'm really glad that this is a one-story house – no damn stairs to climb or fall over. When I (way way way in the future) get my own house, I'm going to try my best to get a single-story (and as small as possible… I don't understand why people like such big houses – more to clean).

Well I could understand why it would be a pain for someone that is old, or injured. But I'm young and pretty fit so I really don't mind it and a two story house gives an extra level of space.

Pros:

Small but cozy
Wood floors
4 rooms 2 baths
nice and open living room
big dining room

Cons:

Bad neighborhood (several drug busts down the street from my house)
I am surrounded on either end of my street by two schools so kids are always walking by and yelling and walking in my yard
big back yard thats covered with trees and leaves and has a dip right in the middle thats about a foot deep because the previous owners had an above ground pool.
the back yard is also surrounded by this aquaduct/drainage ditch thingy. When it rains really hard in the summer the water rises to above the brim sometimes and floods my backyard. It is pretty cool to watch all the water roaring by though.
my room is pretty small

More cons:
Neigborhood somewhat resembles a shanty town.
1 bathroom
small kitchen
no dining room

Another Pro: approx 1/4 Acre yard

I don't think it's true though. I mean, do you have any idea how much crap goes into a car? But then again, perhaps it was engineered so this statistic could be thrown around at press launch. And what exactly is "component form?" Could you literally detach every part from one Corolla Verso and stick it in another, or would you have to grind them into a fine silt that resembles human ashes? These are questions that must be answered.

Pro's:
  • It's MASSIVE.
  • Neatly designed, and decorated well. (Except for that stupid baby photo of me in a sailor suit) :irked:
  • Two-storey (Pro for me).
  • Staircase is nice.
  • Parents bedroom takes up half of the upstairs area. Their walk-in wardrobe and bathroom are the size of most normal estate homes' bedrooms here.
  • I have pretty much the whole upstairs area to myself, which is quite a lot.
  • Separate Foxtel (Pay-TV) boxes.
  • Split phone line and ISDN.
  • Lots of room inside and out.
  • My upstairs area has a great view of the mountains and forestry.
  • Situated in the countryside, meaning that everyone is generally friendly around here, not too many people, traffic is low, and the scenery is (very) nice.
  • We get the most beautiful mist in the morning, especially coming over the mountains and settling on some lakes around here.
  • Gorgeous dawn and sunset.
  • Quiet and tranquil.
  • Natural.
  • Bottle shop a few houses down the road.
  • Next to the bottle shop is a restaurant with one of the best chefs you will find. Expensive, though.
  • Directly behind us is a General/Petrol Store, with everything you need (except condoms, which is quite aggrovating).
  • Beautiful drive from the main point of civilisation to here.

Con's:
  • 20 minutes from civilisation. This shall be turned around once I get my P Plates (tomorrow hopefully).

I love my house. :D

 don't forget the pink wallpaper in your room

Pro's
  • Small and Cozy
  • Only two people share the house, my mum and I
  • Nicely decorated
  • Always clean
  • Great chef (my mum)
  • TV in my room with PS2 and VCR
  • Close to the shops and VERY close to my school (like I'm 5 meters from it right now)
  • Tennis court next door
  • At the end of a couldersac
  • Near bushland
  • Been here for over 10 years so it's really home to me

Con's
  • My study has no roon to study, my fault though.
  • Neighbourhood is getting worse, kids all over the street all day
  • Little room for storage
  • My room has the sun shining in it in the morning, I HATE that!!!11!1!!!
  • Poorly insulated, gets hot in summer and cold in winter.
  • No Air Con
  • We're just renting

I love my house :D

My house...

Cons:

- NO 🤬 parking now that these 🤬 asian families invaded our street. (btw, I am asian too)
- still stuck in the 70s/80s... why? green, brown and orange carpets as well as cabinets to match.
- Our front and backyard look like a tornado hit but my parents also seem to be style challenged when it comes to how things look too.
- No central A/C just a window A/C in the family room.

I suppose that's physically everything... ?

Pro:

- Decent size (to me anyway)
- looks like a two story house but thank god it isn't
- pretty close to stuff. (stores, freeways, and etc.)

Cons:
-It's VERY SMALL, and I mean every house here is basically smaller than one in the USA because Holland is so small, and the ground prizes are VERY HIGH!! I think that the entire house (without garden) is 7 to 9 meters long and 6 to 7 meters wide:crazy: We DO have upstairs and downstairs:D
-Very unfriendly neighbours, people who are constantly busy with their front garden (2 by 3 meters) and when something goes a BIT wrong with that garden.........:scared:👎
-Not much kids of my age around here (actually none) but I have to say, that in American terms and distances, they're very closeby me (one mile from the following FUN neighborghoud)

Pros:
-500 meters of the shop center with hundreds of shops:D:tup:
-Great LOOKING neighborghoud
-1 Mile from my dad away:D
-Just a fun city, in the center but still in the least busiest section of it:tup: With a park in front of it:sly:
-Can walk to school from here:tup:

That's probably it basically, pretty pleased with where I live

Later G-T-4-Fan

Pros

It's big.
It has a great view.
It has one indoor pool, and one out door pool.
I have my own bedroom and my own personal room
My wife and I designed and had it custom built for our needs.
It's worth almost three times more than what we paid for it, which was just seven years ago.

Cons

It takes forever to heat or cool down.
It's costing us a lot of money!
UPS won't deliver to us, nor several other package delivery companies.

Just out of interest, how much did you pay to have it designed and built? I have no idea as to the figure, would be most interested to hear.

I'll use my house in Pa.

PRO:
Big
Not brand new, but not too old. It was built 17 years ago and we've lived there ever since.
2 stories, and a finished basement
My bedroom is huge (3 to 4 times the size of my dorm room)
3 car garage (although my dad gets all three of the garage spots :( )
New kitchen and hardwood floors
Quiet neighborhood
5 acres of land (2 for the house/front yard/back yard, 3 of woods)
PS2 (nice to have since I don't have one 9 out of 12 months when I'm at school)
Big screen tv with tivo
Cable internet connection in my room

CON:
Nobody takes care of the roads around my house, so it can become a nightmare to drive around in the winter.

Pros:
- Nice neighborhood
- Big backyard
- nice neighbors
- Lots of trees
- We could get wireless interent if we wanted

Cons:
- Small house
- Small room
- Our street connects two busy roads, so everyone and their uncle has to drive through it
- Live on a hill, so learning to drive stick was a *****

Basically, if my house had a second floor, it'd be the house I'd like to raise my kids in.
