YA SAY WHAT?!!!!
I'm hoping some knows what the differences are, that make a wheel ps and/ or pc operable.

I have an old but good DFP and an older and still good Momo.
With both being Logitech, i'm hoping a simple (I wish) explanation as to what the actual piece of hardware is that makes one compatitable or not.

What momo? Red or black?

The red one is a PC wheel but it worked with GT3, by accident it would seem. It didn't work with GT4 though.

Oh, and you can't bold titles.

Red and I realized the bold, thanks. Fixed

If it works even by accident, then that would lead my thinking that it's in the game not the operating platform, but that still doesn't explain how the G25 gets around it.

Just a wild guess, maybe it's something to do with the USB Vendor ID? That's how Palm tricked iTunes into thinking it has a legitimate device connected.

The red momo was designed as a PC wheel, so the fact it worked with GT3 on the PS2 was by accident rather than design. GT3 saw the momo as a Driving Force. The black, newer, momo did not work in GT3 IIRC.

I've made sure, as I use my wheel on both PS2/3 and PC, that I've bought the Playstation version, as it is almost certain to function on the PC, rather than the other way round.

Ok, why I'm asking this is, I am in the process of building a pod. So to save some $, I want find whatever it is that will allow me to use just one wheel for both GT5p and beyond and RFactor and othe PC racing games.
As they are both well out of warranty and I have no problem with some surgery on either.
I am willing to give the necessary mod a go.

@ ItsHim: Is there an extra pin used in the USB for one or the other?

After some further research I had the brilliant idea to look up the Logitech page, and some USB vendor/product IDs.

I'm not familiar with the exact details, but I feel safe to assume that Sony grants the game developers more freedom of which USB devices they like to support, while Microsoft restricts it obviously thoroughly. Maybe that's a relict of the Linux on Playstation heritage?

So, in conclusion, I guess it's down to what devices the game developers thought of both on the Playstation and of course, on the PC, you have virtual freedom by use of drivers.

Ah I see, I thought it was more of an academic question. Can't help you there mate, terribly sorry, and sorry for the generic answer I gave.

To make a wheel for a platform requires the cooperation of many companies. That being said, we like selling products, and would always like to sell more products to new markets. Unfortunately, not all of the requirements lined up, and we were unable to pursue this product.
Logitech official post on their forum concerning the compatibility of the G25 on the 360

Last edit, just for the sake of it, it seems my initial idea wasn't so far off, though it doesn't help the OP.

Also, I would really like to offer anyone who has one of these ***** wheels to post the USB VID/PID of the PS3 receiver.

I can't get into the details, but unlike smaller companies, we really have to dot our "i"s and cross our "t"s and really play by the rules. I can't get into details much beyond that due to various NDAs, but that's the fact of the matter.

It seems as if I might be asking a bit much to get around not buying another wheel

May be someone has a solution, I'll give it a little while before I give up on this idea.👍

Thanks for your answers guys.
