PS2 and LCD TV - display quality

I've got a 32" LCD TV and it's working fine. Playing DVDs through it or using it with the Xbox 360 looks perfectly fine - the picture is crisp and clear.

But when I hook my PS2 up to it, the picture looks horrible. It's blurred and the colours are smudged and dark looking. I have to crank up the brightness and contrast to make some games playable because dark areas in games are just a dark blurry mess. There's also what looks like a noticeable amount of interference on screen - wavy lines through the picture, the kind that I see on terrestrial TV stations sometimes during the summer. And there's a hum coming through the speakers whenever I use the PS2.

I'm wondering if it's the video cables or something? Is there anything I can do to improve the picture quality. I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be getting a nice crisp clear picture from my PS2 on the TV.

Um if you are using the standard compisite cables which came with your ps2 then that is the problem.

Go get a set of component cables. It will make much cleaner images. Even s-video cables make a huge difference and i know because i have a 32inch screen.

And the buzzing is probably just poor old warn out cables. My original cable from my ps1 does the same thing as yours.

Yeah, I know here on our new 32" LCD TV that the PS2's picture with standard cables is absolute crap... Even the Xbox's manages to output a much clearer picture.

With the other problem with humming/lines, my cable used to do that occasionally on my old TV. You would fiddle with the cable and it would either go away or get worse. It's just the cable, me thinks...

i have a 42" hdtv lcd. when i first got it, hooked the ps2 to it and wow, garbage lol. bought just a simple component cable ($20) and now it looks great, well as good as a ps2 will get really. i saw some other ps2 specific component cables for $50+, i thought that was just a bit too much for that.
