PS2 HDD + laser too

was just wanting opinions
I have a PAL PS2 with a modchip (was done a few years ago, Messiah is the name of the chip I believe) so to play backup games...now I recently have bought a DVD writer so is there actually any point buying the HDD, I mean I dont really know advantages/disadvantages, I just know you can store games on the HD...

thinking along the same lines...the laser will need replacing soon so can the HDD completely eliminate the need for discs ? as if that was the case I may consider buying the HDD rather than a new laser....

opinions/info please :)

Speed... Games loaded from HDD are SOOOO much faster - It's actually quite enjoyable to play with little to no loading time !....

well, if your laser is failing anyways, you'll have problems booting HDLoader later in the system's life. So while the HDD is great for load times and on reducing stress to the laser, your laser is still going to fail sooner or later.
