PS2 Nostalgia

So on Christmas my PS3's HDD broke when I accidentally dropped it when I was cleaning stuff. So for a few days I was just sitting there twiddling my thumbs. But then I remembered I still had my PS2 in a closet. So I took it out, plugged the cables and I selected a game.

Back story: I'm only 14 now and I got my PS2 around I think when the PS3 came out, or maybe a year after that. Back then I knew nothing about gaming and cars. But I only knew that I love cars. So for my birthday, my parents got me a PS2 and two games, DT Racer and Auto Modelista* (spelling?). (They only got those two games because they were cheap. ). /end flashback

So for the first game I selected to play was Need for Speed Most Wanted, because I recently watch a Youtuber make a lets play of it. I started the first race and I was amazed at how crappy the graphics were. I tried to think back when I first got the game, trying to remember how I thought about the graphics of the game. My second reaction was how much improvement there was since NFSMW. (I'm now at 30% completion in NFSMW and I still have the first car I chosen, a VW Golf  ).

Then I decided to try Gran Turismo 3 (I didn't have 4). And my first reaction was: Holy crap! I never really enjoyed GT3 compared to the other games I had for my PS2 (specifically Midnight Club 3, but sadly that disc was scratched and unplayable now) and I never got past the Clubman Cup! I tried doing a few races in arcade but I just can't get use to the physics so I decided to put in a different game. Auto Modelista* (spelling?).

Back when I first played it, I don't think I really understood what I was supposed to be doing, because when I looked at the garage, I had like 3 duplicates of Hyundai Tirubons* (spelling?). :odd: I also checked out what tracks there were in the game and I noticed one. Akagi downhill. ERMEGERD. Initial D!

After playing these three games, I remembered all the memories and joy I had playing on my first console. I can't wait to play all the other games for it and just have a great time and let the joyful memories flow through me (whut?).

I'll keep posting here whenever something amazing happened or when more memories come. I recommend everyone to connect their old PS2s and just have a road trip to Memory Lane. :)

*note: if there are any spelling and grammar error, I blame my iPod Touch.

Nostalgia you saying? I'm with Sony from 1995, so i had only best memories with PS2, still had mine Fat PS2 next to her younger brothers :D

I dread to think what the air flow is like in there, that photo is making my teeth itch. I'm guessing you don't have a PSX because of backwards compatibility?

Thanks to the possibly contra-AUP emu-word, I've been replaying some of my PS2 game collection. I'd forgotten how supremely awesome (and still unparalleled) TimeSplitters: Future Perfect was. Armored Core 2 is another one, I'd missed that game.

PS2 was the generation that I played GT games the least. I have a lot of fond memories with GT3 and 4 but PS2 was by far an SSX machine for me. It started with SSX3 and carried over to SSX: On Tour. So many hours spent on those two games it's crazy. My buddy and I used to race down the mountain or have half pipe competitions all day long. I eventually sold them but was thinking a few weeks back I should try to pick up copies of both again.

Yes, backward compatibility does the trick. The air flow is good, PS4 works without freezing and PS3 too. Never had any problems.

My PS2 is real super beast from the past. I have most of my games on HDD drive with network adapter. When i launched GT4 with new physics it was a blast for me i never forget. GT5 was the same thing only with HD graphics and much more easier game than GT4 was. Especially with licenses and coffee breaks.

And Resident Evil 4 is for me Nr.1 game for PS2, hands down.

What's making my teeth itch is the fact the Playstation 2 logo isn't set to the vertical position on the disk tray!!!!!! Did you not know that's punishable by a long prison sentence?!

I also have fond memories of playing the PS2 when I used to play video games more, playing again its hard to get used to the graphics which at times now seem terrible.

@ussr, is that an aftermarket vertical stand for the PS4?

I've got my 2 fatty PS2's on vertical stands next to each other, they look pretty cool, even today.

Hell yeah - try Metal Arms: Glitch in the System too, if you don't know it already.

With Gaikai set to hit during the summer, I think there's going to be a whole lot more nostalgia around 👍

I actually convinced my brother that if the rotating logo on the fat PS3 wasn't set properly the console wouldn't actually turn on. He had to try it for himself before he realised I was joking.

I play PS2 frequently; I was given a new unit for Xmas because the old one was too worn out to work properly anymore. I think I'll still be playing Enthusia Professional Racing while everyone here is arguing over Gran Turismo 9 and Forza Motorsport 17. :D

That is pretty funny

They stopped making them rotatable on the slim onwards, its a pity cost cutting can even go down to a part like that which is a neat small touch.

I have a PS2 in the closet too, had it out today to listen to some daft tunes I made with MTV Music Generator 2.

I recently gave my girlfriend a spare TV I had in the house and found my old slim PS2 in the drawer. Forgot how small it is.
So I set it all up at her house so she can play Spyro and Crazy Taxi. I spent a while playing the original Stuntman. Man the memories of trying to get 100% in that game came flooding back. Still one of the best driving games on PS2.

I still have all the GTA's for PS2 as well. I'm sure one day I'll spend a few weeks playing GTA III,VC,SA,LCS,VCS,IV and V all over again.

YES!!! Finished this game 10+ times!!! Last decent resident evil in my opinion.

Just wished they had ported over the gamecube remake as well… still haven't played it after all these years :grumpy:

Now that's real crime right there. And it's against GTplanet AUP rules so i have to report you.

I know!! never owned a gamecube tho, still clinging on to the hope it will one day get ported to another console.

Oh the PS2, was and still is my favourite gaming console that I have ever owned. I remember getting mine for my 6th birthday, and it is a moment I have never forgotten. The first games I got for it were GT3 and my favourite arcade racer of all time: NFS Underground. And it was those games that kick started my interest in cars and racing games, which I guess is why I'm here now. I have a lot to owe to the PS2, and even though it stopped playing CD's (but still plays DVD's), I won't let it go.

Ever.
