PS2 problem with PSOne games

Hi guys, does someone know solution for following problem:

I own slim moded PS2 and it works perfect for every ps2 or ps1 game I play but it won't work when I try to swap discs during some psx game run. In other words, there are lot of psx games that comes with two (or even three) discs as standard, such as Driver 2 back on the streets, Final fantasy VII, Metal Gear, Star Ocean 2nd story...
They all work perfect from the start but sooner or later they ask you to change to disc 2 to continue playing and this is my problem - once I open ps2 hatch and do disc swap it won't load disc 2 - on ps1 this method was easy but it doesn't work here, why ?

Could be cause it is moded.

By moded I meant that chip was installed. And I forgot to mention, game is Star ocean 2nd story (2 discs - both copies). Does this help ?

I am well aware of moded consoles.

Could be cause of that chip.

it may work if both discs were original but they aren't

It may not even work if they were original.

When you mod a console you don't know what the chip may do.

It may prevent you from switching discs.

You might be able to disable the chip by holding down the power button when turning on the console and that might allow the '2 part' PS1 games to work again.

Do you mean to hold it while changing disc from 1 to 2 ?

No I mean when you turn on the console for the first time, pressing and holding the power button for a while as its turning on often disables any on board chips.
