My PS2 has problems running GTA vice.

Sometimes, on the load screens, the drive starts making funny clicky sounds and takes a long time toload, or not load at all...

In the game it sometimes gives me 'error reading GTA Vice city DVD'...

The DVD is clean.
The lens should be clean. I have a cleaner.
I opened the ps2 and looked in the dvd drive but nothing dodgy.

One time, my GT concept had trouble loading the car graphics as well.

I can't figure out why this happens...

The clicking sounds are made when the laser is moving back and forth, but is having a hard time reading the disc for information. Either the disc or laser is dirty.

mine was doing the same thing with GTA:VC.it use to lock up with FF10.

i used a DVD/CD Disc Cleaner also.but taking it apart,i noticed the lens was full of dust.

i used a q-tip and followed this guide and so far everything has worked when it was new.no noise, clicking

I cleaned the laser with a cotton bud, but now there is a funny grindy noise from the drive when games load. I can't figure out where its coming from.

Open it back up.. With the PS2's disc drawer facing you, look just to the left of the laser housing you will see a small white plastic bit that runs along the worm gear (thats the long spiral looking thingy that the plastic bit makes contact with) this is what drives the laser back and forth..

Check that the worm gear is in good contact with the plastic bit by sliding it up and down to free any grime thats in there.

Next clean the whole worm gear assembly with a cotton bud (Qtip) ...Sometimes dirt build up clogs up the gear system..

Then finally check the plastic bit it to make sure there is no dirt on that..That should sort the problem out....

Failing that you will need to order a new part it will cost around $9.95 around £ 3.50 for a new plastic gear..

If you want a link to the site where to buy all PS2 parts (In the US) they also ship overseas.. just PM me and i will sort you out..

Good luck mate.. 👍
