Hey guys, I just got a 80gb PS3 for christmas and it has frozen up on me 3 times...

The first time was during a match of COD4. Then the 2nd time I was playing a demo and once I exited the demo i tried to move to go to my friends list and it wouldn't move, But when I press the PS button it would let me choose to shut off the system or turn off the controller. I choose the controller one first and turned it back on. Nothing... so I just shut it off. After that it was good.

3rd time happened while i was on the web browser on youtube. Happened the same as the 2nd time..

What can be wrong?

I'm getting scared that its gonna die on me:nervous:

Could be online related. If your connection froze up or something. Warhawk did it to me once but then finally kicked me off saying their was a network error. Turns out my wife was looking at My Space on the PC and hogging all the bandwidth.

Demos are incomplete software and as such don't always run stable. Almost every instance of freezing I have encountered has been a result of a demo.

I believe there was an issue with this after the 2.0 firmware update but then the next update fixed it. I may have the firmware versions wrong but I know it did it to me once and I saw others complain but then after teh next update no one had a problem again.

Although, it is possible that something was bogging down the memory in the Web browser and the browser froze, not the system.

I think mines only frozen once or twice, both time possibly after a firmware update? Meh, no biggie. Just turned it off and once it got switched back on all was hunky dory. :)

Mine is doing a weird thing of turning off and restarting after exiting a game
(only blu-ray games though), the only times it's frozen is when there was no signal for internet and it got stuck loading a webpage.

Chris.

Try resetting your settings before resetting your system, that way it might be fixed without you losing your data. I had a problem with the WLAN indicator staying on, but resetting the system settings fixed it.

hmm ic.

Thanks for all the replies...👍

BTW I'm running my PS3 off wireless internet... could that be the problem?

thanks again...

Maybe, maybe not. Somewhere in the network settings is a place to see your wireless signal strength. That could be dropping on you. You can also go to speedtest.net from the browser to make sure your Internet speed is decent.

But as each instance could be independent of each other it is hard to say. The COD thing could have just been a sudden bandwidth drop for whatever reason, the demo could easily have been bad programming on the demo, and the web browser could have been any number of things.

What demo were you playing?

See, the problem is because it was on three separate instances doing different things each time we cannot guarantee that it is just one specific issue or not just a case of minor one-time instances that are completely unrelated.

I think you are being a bit too worried. If it does it a lot more or starts doing it at the same time then there may be a problem that can be identified and can be dealt with. If every time a poorly programmed demo caused my system to freeze I freaked out I would probably have more replacements than a 360 owner.

I believe I was playing the F1 Championship demo. I'm just asking because my cousin said my ps3 was dieing:scared:

I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something to major. I've been playing it lately and no problems anymore.

yeah i think i got a little to worried at first...:ouch:

well thanks for the replies:tup:
