If a pair of headphones works with your 3.5mm jack (provided you have one), you could also connect a set of desktop speakers like these, for example. For the price, the reviews are pretty decent, too.you can connect a pair of headphones to the monitor's 3.5mm jack and listen away.

That's the one I have. Very affordable but good for being an entry level home theater. DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1 decoding, Dolby Pro-Logic II and 96 Khz audio feeds -- One optical input, no HDMI. Satisfies my needs, at least until I can afford better.
This makes a huge difference when switching from standard audio to 5.1 when watching Blu-Rays and DVDs too, if you're into that.
If you change the audio output settings, the system will no longer be able to output audio from multiple output connectors at the same time. For example, if your system is connected to a TV via an HDMI cable and to an audio device via a digital optical cable and you switch to [Digital Out (Optical)] under [Audio Output Settings], audio will no longer be output from the TV. To output audio from the TV, switch the setting to [HDMI].
I have a Vizio TV with Dolby Digital 5.1 processing abailities. My PS3 runs audio and video via HDMI to the TV in Dolby Digital 5.1, then I have a digital optical going out from the TV to my Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound system.Quite disapointed with this message... I own stereo speakers and going to buy a TV set and would like to hear sound from both.
