Maybe get a big fan blowing at it might work, but it seems to be a power unit failure, I've seen it before on youtube, but can't find it anymore.

If it's already out of warranty, open it up, it's not that hard, get a fan, start it up and try to back up your saves, install data doesn't matter to much.

I would open it up, but none of screwdrivers I have match that one screw to the cover :ill:

After you open the PS3 there is a wire connector connected to the back of the black box (dont know what its called) that is connected to the power supply. That wire connector tends to wiggle out easy. Just did a reflow on my other ps3 and had something similar happen afterwords. I believe it was that connector that was causing it. Noticed it wasnt fully seated when I tore it apart to troubleshoot. It works now so I can only assume...

Ok, so here's the update on the situation:

I don't have a Flathead screwdriver that'll fit and and unscrew the cover so I'll just have to go and buy a Torx Screwdriver. I live near both a Walmart and a Home Depot so I'm gonna try to find one for the lowest price, pick it up and then I can begin work on taking it apart.

Also, just tryed turning it on today. Its stay on only slightly longer then cutoff. The other times, it cutoff and gave me the flashing light. It seems to alter between either of those behaviors.

 It doesn't get hot enough, and I took it to get fixed because i don't trust myself with a heatgun :nervous:

2 weeks later, it's dead again.. :(

Have you made sure the power cable isn't coming out just enough to shut itself off? Mine had that.

Overdue update:

Its fixed :D Power supply was the problem, leaving it on aimlessly is a bad thing so I do not intend on making that mistake again.

Thanks to those that tryed to help me, I appreciate it 👍

Issue is over, thread is closed now.
