PS3 Firmware 3.0

More specific, this is how i would like to see the new PS3 3.0 Fw, I made two mockups of the new Fw, something like the New Xbox Experience, for the PS3.👍

The first one shows the new Ui, its a mix of the XMB and submenus, also has some widgets, like the home Character and Your PSN ID, if you enter in the game section there would be options listed vertical, with better previews and more interactive.

this one shows how can possibly be the music menu, instead of having all the files, you would enter a vertical submenu where you decide what would you like to do in Music, if you choose the option to listen your music, then it would be arranged the way you want, in this case by album.

Note that i closed the Home Widget to show how would it look.

I may do another mockups of more sections of the XMB, but what do you think of this style of GUI for the PS3?

Very nice, but do you think you could post smaller images and then link them to teh full size one. No every one is going to bother to look if it takes them an age to load images and they can't see the whole thing in one go.

Wow these are extreme concepts but i like them alot. it would be a drastic and well needed change if they go this route. i would personally be happy with 3.0 if all it did was allow background music in ALL games like the XBOX did 2 years ago

Hahaha, at least my artwork will become Famous

I hope Sony sees that artwork, and think about that, thinking that a PS3 Slim is coming, a new GUI would be something to refresh the whole franchise. But, the only thing I desire from a new FW would be Screen Capture application and Put my own music in All Games.👍

However, apart from some of features mentioned, like in-game music (which is something that the game has to implement, not the FW), and the potentially useful screen capture; I find your first screen much too busy for my tastes, I like the simplicity of the current XMB. I don't need all that information on there at once.

Having said that, I do like your Music organization much better than the what is currently in place.

I agree 100%. The XMB itself had worked great from the PSX, PSP and PS3. Now changing sub categories is more usefull than changing the whole system like MS did with the new dashboard.
And that wave is AWSOME!

I, too, prefer the current XMB. It isn't broke, and it doesn't need fixing.

However, the concept above is not bad, though I would remove almost all of the gray backgrounds, and have art related to the currently highlighted item appear as the entire background (the same way that games show a wallpaper like screen when you hover over them now), but this could be used for music albums and movies in addition to games. The last thing that I would change about the concept above is to make all the icons and information smaller. It feels like I'm looking at a computer screen rather than an HD media screen.

Regarding the actual 3.0 firmware update, all of the possible changes are just wild rumors, according to Sony. From this article:

I like the ideas you've come up with here, but they'd be more annoying than anything to me. I love the way it works as it currently is as it's simple but effective, this has too much going on for my likes.

Yep pretty much, it doesn't fit the philosophy of the XMB and it'd be way too busy that way (Hopefully they do add as much features as possible though)
