PS3 froze during 'saving data'

While the 'data saving' flash was happening after an event last night, it froze completely so that the only way to exit the game or turn off the PS3 was to hit the power switch at the back. Attempts to then turn it back on using the DS3 controller were met with all lights on the controller flashing and no response from te machine. I unplugged it overnight and tried again this morning, but again no response other than the flashing lights on the controller.

I have an early 80G fatboy, and did notice the other day I picked up a corrupted game save, thankfully the USB save addressed that. I've looked around the net, but have found nothing which specifically corresponds to my issue other than it may be related to the recent update which has been found to cause significant problems to machines.

Does anyone have any ideas or solutions on this, or am I in need of a new machine?

Turn it on using the button on the ps3 itself? Then hook up a charging cable and it should re-connect.

Turn it on first with the switch, then the button up front, then sync the controller.

Thanks for tyhat, I feel like such a dill. Never even considered that. It is working again, but save data was corrupted. That's ok, it obly cost me three events since last save to USB so should be ok.

It is NEVER, I repeat NEVER, without a USB plugged in and saved to after every session. I think the machione may be nearer the end of it's life than the start, but all being well I may get enough use to debut GT6 on it. 👍

I'm glad you got your save back, but you shouldn't have turned your PS3 off at the back, just hold the ON/OFF button untill it beeps, then release, and wait for the next three beeps, it has restarted and you won't have lost any data.

Glad you are back up and running again mate. It's amazing the the Fat Boy has lasted this long. It is well worth holding on to though. I know Sony US offers a repair service for PS2 and 3s. I have a slim PS3 and the hard drive crashed 3 months out of warranty. As long as it has been kept clean and cool I would venture to say it is likely a hard drive problem since Sony uses the 2 worst hard drive mfgs in the market Hitachi and Toshiba I think. I know the one in ours was a Hitachi. I replaced it with a laptop Western Digital 320 GB for $50 USD. Also built a custom cooling stand as well. It runs very cool and is now just over 3 years old seeing action a good 10 hours everyday.

Thanks mate. It is MORE than amazing if you get my drift...I have a ten year old washing machine which has never missed a beat and they are made to last about 5 years max. This thing has in reent times started restarting itself at times when I go to quit game, and the recent corrupted data. I may look at a similar setup replaced HD such as yours or like it. Anyways, out the door , I'll get back to you tomorrow as promised.
