SHAME ON EA AND SMS:tdown:

It's 2011 and they release a racing title on the PS3 in freakin 720p! Are you kidding me EA/SMS... My fears prior to the release have been confirmed today. Once again.., the PS3 version has gotten shafted in terms of the graphics.

The previous Shift1 was supported up to 1080p on the XBox., and of course a sad 720p on the PS3. They've done it again with the latest title.

Does the XBox version support 1080p?

Also., what is up with the constant blurred vision in the helmet cam? It's like you get the speed blur (when it's supposed to happen).., but it almost seems like the speed blur is misfiring and hitting at low speeds too. Juts going slow the rear view mirror and dash get blurry.

Is your enjoyment of the game really that impacted by it being 720 and not 1080? If really don't know if I could tell the difference between the two. If it means that much to you I'd recommend plopping down the cash for a PC where 1080p is garbage.

On the other hand I suppose it is a bummer that the two console versions aren't the same. I thought PS3 was the lead console for this game.

On consoles it's VERY noticeable. I've got Shift-1 on the XBox and The PS3. There is a VERY notable difference between the two. In 720p on the PS3 it's washed out. There's no excuse for developers to be releasing a racing title on the PS3 in 720p today. Just no damn excuse for it.

I agree that the two versions should be able to run the same resolution, but the videos I've seen from the PS3 version look pretty darn good personally.

i think XBOX paid EA to wash the ps3 version, but anywayz i'm glad i haven't bough the game yet, and will not buy it

Glad I opened this thread lol I thought this was going to be something important. Can't wait to pick up my copy here in about an hour or so!

there is the disappointed trhead for moaning kids, don't spam the forum with useless post like this one.

Xbox360 can output everything in 1080p or any other resolution supported by its operating system. On PS3 it's up to the developers to support each resolution.

Shift 2 is probably rendered in 720p on both consoles.

You think Xbox, which is not a company, essentially bribed EA to cripple the quality of the PS3 version? Do you realize how ridiculous that sounds?

Do you also realize such an action would be the grounds for a lawsuit?

I highly doubt the 360 version of Shift 1 was running in native 1080p. Just because the 360 is set to 1080p does not mean it is rendering in 1080p. The majority of retail games (we are talking 75%+) are natively rendering at 720p and merely being scaled to 1080p, if they even do that.

Very few retail games run in native 1080p on either the PS3 or 360. GT5 is not even native 1080p, merely upscaled 1280x1080.

Are you freakin kidding me? How many of you here can even comment from experience on the graphics difference from EXPERIENCE by owning BOTH consoles..?..?

There's NO upscaling involved with the PS3 version to 1080p. It's just flat out 720p. Secondly.., to the poster who thinks GT5 is upscaled to jsut 1080.., WRONG.., it's actually upscaled to a higher setting than 1080p which is why so many flatscreen TV's are having issues with the graphics.

Look.., I own both consoles. I have the original Shift on both consoles.., and I am in the position to do a side by side comparison between the two games. It's no match HANDS down it's much better looking on the XBox as it also clearly states on the XBox copy that it supports up to 1080p. The PS3 version is only supported at 720p. There is no upscaling in the resolution either.

They probably did the exact same thing with Shift-2. You want to get a good idea of how VERY different it is between the two titles.., then don't talk out your ass if you don't have both consoles and just throw opinionated ASSUMPTIONS. Get your hands on a copy for both consoles.

I'm at least speaking from personal experience here. I will be picking up the XBox version. EA/SMS should have LET IT BE KNOWN that the PS3 version was only in 720p. For Pete's sake they could have at least upscaled it to 1080p. How hard would that have been. Some of you really don't get it and have to see it for yourself what WASHED OUT graphics look like between the two consoles.

Or y'know, buyers should just understand that intense games of this nature can't run in 1920x1080 with 4xAA on this generation of consoles. Apart from arcade releases on Live, VT3 with its fixed stadium and perspective is the only notable 1080p native game on 360 and that hasn't got several cars racing around a constantly moving landscape.

lol

Anyway this looks pretty good to me!

That's due to the 2 different graphics cards in the machines not because the 360 can upscale Shift 2!

Many if not all 360 games are upscaled to 1080p but Shift 2 is native 720p.

If you own a 1080p TV it will upscale the game in the same manner the 360 does hence why you don't have black borders.

A handful of games are native 1080p like Wipeout HD.

Yes and no, the scalers in TV's are pretty poor compared to the one in the 360.

Upscaling just stretches the image giving you blurry textures and the like, i'm not a fan of the way console games look for this reason (Even GT5 took a lot of getting used to). It probably wouldnt matter if i wasnt sitting so frickin close to my monitor (run my PS3 through my pc monitor).

Shift 2 being 720p i am not surprised with, there may be advantages to it not being 1080p native, whether that be texture, lighting or filtering quality or the level of AA or possibly just a case of getting higher FPS. Once again though if i get this title it will have to be for the PC, i can't be dealing with blurry looking games, meh.

SHIFT2 like the first one is 720p on both consoles. That's a fact. The 360 might upscaled to 1080p but you can force the PS3 to upscale as well although that would largely depend on the game. You do it by unclicking the 720p option in the PS3 Display menu (setting>display).

If the game appear washed out, you might want to turn the Full RGB option ON (on the PS3). This will increase the colour gamut although on screen than has limited RGB, you might lose the details in shadows which apparently is one of the characteristic of the 360- the shadow appears really dark- due to the fact that Full RGB is default on the 360 (correct me if I'm wrong).

Other than that, it's known fact that multi-platform games will tend to look better on the 360. And like someone has pointed out, has little to do with the ability to upscale but the difference in how the PS3 and 360 are designed. There have been few exceptions- the last Final Fantasy being the best example- but that's few and far between.

PS3 does not have an upscaler in it, it has to be done by the software hence very little PS3 games goto 1080p if you unclick 720.

Agreed this is the most asinine thread I've seen in a long time

But XBOX (the organization, not to be confused with MS) totally paid EA to bonk the PS3!
LOL

Honestly that sucks if the ps3 doesn't look as good as expected. I was really shocked to see both consoles next to the PC version. Wow, what a difference.

There is so much wrong information flying around this thread it's mind bottling.

There are plethora of issues where you and I never agree, but this one has just united us in way still unseen in this forum :D

This thread is plagued with nonsense on most amusing level imaginable

I take it you missed the digital foundry article posted on the front page of GTplanet a while back? GT5 when in 1080p runs in native 1280x1080. True 1080p is 1920x1080, so yes GT5 is being upscaled.

It's no match HANDS down it's much better looking on the XBox as it also clearly states on the XBox copy that it supports up to 1080p.

LOL....just because a xbox 360 game box states 1080p, it does not mean it is native 1080p.

If you really have such an issue with blurry textures and resolution, you might want to try PC gaming. Even at 1280x720 or 1920x1080 the PC version looks far better.

Also, chill out over telling people they have no right to say anything if they don't have experience. You don't know what people do and don't have, but so you do in the future; I have a PS3, Xbox 360 and a gaming PC.

Me, for one. I'll be able to comment on the PC soon enough as well.

Is this supposed to be a joke?

Last I checked the PS3 wasn't capable of displaying resolutions beyond the WUXGA standard. In fact, there isn't a single consumer television that I'm aware of that supports anything beyond that standard either. PC Monitors on the other hand. And like I've said some time ago, there's a distinct difference between native 1080p and the vertical resolution of 1,080 scan lines.
