Trying to come up with a cheap solution to get analog sound to the buttkicker without going through a stereo receiver. I have two receivers in storage Onkyo and a yamaha, and would like to leave them in storage for time being.

I found a "FiiO D3 Digitial to analog converter" on amazon. $30

Solution:
PS3 optical out< > opitical in Fiio D3 analog out<>analog in buttkicker
Problem solved.

Next Problem..........PS3 headphones shut off audio through hdmi to television when activated. Will PS3 shut off audio to optical out when ps3 headphones are activated???????????????
I have to order the FiiO to find out

If you are referring to the new Sony wireless headset then all audio out on the ps3 is muted. I use optical out (multi channel out) to my Sony ES that drives my Clarks and it too is shut off. Big disappointment with these new headphones, maybe they will change this in a future update?

I think all you need is a standard PS2 PS3 AV connection cable. It has the Yellow composite for video and the Red/White for audio.

Goto your PS3 settings and activate "Multi Audio Output". This does restrict 5.1 and not 7.1.

PS3 can IIRC output HDMI/OPTICAL & ANALOUGE all at once with the "Multi Output Mode". When using your headphones you could split the analgue ouput to run a seperate analogue feed to your TV if (many do) your TV supports seperate audio input functionality.

Surround headphones usually work on DSP like Pro Logic II or DTS Neo 6 generating a multichannel soundfield. Headphones that have their own multichannel processor are more sutiable for your requirements and this way you would also get your Buttkicker working as well I reckon.

One Question Did you try going into the xmb and change the headphone options to.

Chat only through headset?

or chat and audio on headset menu

I just thinking that maybe if you choose chat only, then music and sounds will continue to come through speakers. But that defeats the purpose of the new 7.1 headphones which i enjoy

maybe sony can fix audio shutoff with a firmware fix. the audio shut off is not needed since a person can mute the stereo or tv on there on.

Mr. Latte please have a double expresso and ponder a solution to this. I saw that project R and you have bought enough gadgets to figure how to make the headphones work with audio to buttkicker

Thanks and lace that with a red bull for rocket fuel

Hee hee

Link me the headphones your using....
I need to know more about those.

You dont need to convert OPTICAL just use analogue Multi AV out for the Buttkicker.

Latte he is using the new Sony wireless headset and all audio is cut from the ps3 when using them. This includes multi channel out. I was disappointed as I bought a pair and can't enjoy my BK and Clarks when utilizing them. A firmware is the only fix at this point:tdown:

Edit: if you turn off the stereo headset audio extension then it outputs all audio to speakers and the headset is used for chat only. Kinda defeats the purpose of the headset.

I had same problem with ButtKicker n PS3, took me a while to make it work both when I play w surround sound system and headset. then I found when i plug the headset into the receiver, it cuts off the signal feeds into ButtKicker.

But then, getting a PX5 headset solves my problem completely.
PX5 comes with a receiver that has optical in/out and does support Dolby Digital 5.1, and itself is 7.1 surround wireless headset with mic.
so I run the Optical out from PS3 to PX5, and PX5 out to Onkyo receiver.
PX5 receiver has 2 output, which is Optical out which i mentioned and there is another 3.5m headphone output on the front on PX5 receiver, then i run a 3.5 to AV cable to ButtKicker, problem solved!!

When I want to play in Onkyo surround system, ButtKicker receive the feed from PX5 headset output (the Onkyo volume adjust won't effect ButtKicker's strength, which is how I prefer) 👍
When I want to Play in headset, I just turn the Onkyo off, and ButtKicker still get the feed from PX5.
With this set up, I don't have to enable the multi-output so no down scale in signal fee also.

Which is pretty similar idea with 2 receivers

pictures for reference ^^

btw, I was really interested in PS3 official wireless headset too, I'm glad to read some review here before I actually get one, or not to get one haha! THX!!

I posted about that here for those who would like this feature re-enabled.

Missed this thread, forgot about it actually...

VanWeeD those do look nice.

Your method of using the Buttkicker via the analogue is okay but then your getting the L/R combined into mono for the Buttkicker and not the LFE effects. You might find the performance is different as LFE gets different decoded audio than just the stereo. Either can work good but they will be different. Combined is the best option with 3x independant tactile for L/R & LFE.

Using your OPTICAL out into your Onkyo and then using its decoding would give you the LFE bass for your Buttkicker from the sub output. The disadvantage is then you wouldnt get it operating via your headphones and thats the bit that sucks. You could swap the cables over whenever you wanted one or the other I suppose or if you do find the Buttkicker via LFE maybe when using the Onkyo is something you prefer to the stereo output from the headphones decoder.

Im afraid you are getting the downscaled audio still. If you used multichannel output of PS3 limiting 5.1 over OPTICAL it should make no difference to your headphones.

Your headphones like all 7.1 headphones Im aware of use matrixed multichannel DSP, so isnt full bandwidth anyways and could produce 7.1 effects from a 2 channel stereo input. Your headphones 7.1 effects are just derived from DSP (Prologic IIx) not the full 7.1 decoded soundtrack or audio. OPTICAL connection as you may know cannot utilise the full uncompressed 7.1 as it hasnt the bandwidth.

I have Sonys highend S7000 headphones (Japan Only) which work in a similar principle but do not have a mic. The decoder of it however has both Dolby and DTS 7.1 yet still only uses OPTICAL and therefore isnt proper full whack 7.1 neither.

wow, Gained knowledge:tup:Thx Latte,

I always looking other way to get most out of buttkicker. but I sold PX5 due to the wireless internet interfere w the RF phone, and makes the popin' noise every 10-15min, which really bugs me, n it only take AA better as its power source.

Now I use opt out n AV cable with multi-audio output option for PS3

as recent possess xBox360, however I have trouble fingering out how I should hook it up to xBox. since xBox can't plug HDMI n AV at sometime

as I like to adjust the volume constantly but I would like buttkicker strength remains when i adjust volume.. more brain-strom for me >.>

VanWeeD

I reckon you could sort out your issue with a HDMI duplicator.
See here

Alternatively it should be possible to use the X360 Optical (HDMI compatible shape) output lead. Have your video goto the display/TV and audio via Optical. Then get an optical duplicator like this.

Hope its some help...

My friend yes you can. I've been doing this since the 360 was released. There is even a special dongle made by microsoft just for this purpose. Or you could crack open any regular AV cable end box. its super simple and there are pictures all over the internet. :)

👍👍 GOOD to know bro!! thx for da info~ since this is my very first xbox
bought it mainly to play FM4
I didn't expect to purchase another cable just for the purpose, thought it would just be something like PS3!
gota order one from amazon! cheers ~

nvm, i did little research on internet, and i did the trick of removing the cover of AV cable so I can plug HDMI n AV at same time, n it work like a champ!!! just like PS3 multi-output!

thx bro, save me some buck here!

I actually forgot, as I have that X360 cable.

So I get OPTICAL 5.1 to the amp and also the HDMI.
Thing is, as I use monitors via the HDMI they dont allow the 5.1 DD sound and the monitor produces no audio.

I forgot, its just my monitors wont support it not that the X360 isnt sending out dual audio.

I am using the PlayStation AV cables to send the audio signal to the ButtKicker. My AV receiver is down right now. I'm sending audio and video to the TV via HDMI. My TV has a sub out. The speaker bar for the Pioneer Kuro actually sounds pretty good!

When my receiver was functioning, I was using the sub out>Buttkicker>sub. I don't notice any difference. Actually I think using the AV cables is better because it sends more sounds to the ButtKicker. Not just LFE.

Yes Latte, the PS3 will run all three sources at once So, put this PlayStation cables to use and feed your ButtKicker!
