Source tells CVG that PS3 won't launch in Europe until September 2007 while Sony sticks to March release

Sony's head of Worldwide Studios Phil Harrison recently told Official PlayStation Magazine that he wouldn't like to make any definitive statements about the March rollout for PS3.

Sony quickly followed that up with a statement re-confirming PS3 is on track for March 2007 across Europe. But speculation of a further delay just won't go away.

High placed sources within the industry have already been tipping April as a more realistic launch window the for console. But a source has told CVG that a PS3 delay as far back as September 2007 is now far more likely, pointing the finger of delay at - yes you guessed it - "component shortages". And let's face it, you don't launch a console in summer.

When contacted this morning a Sony UK spokesperson told CVG that "We're 100 percent on track for a March release".

September, eh? Well, I´m not that keen for the so far released and upcoming games, so it´s not that big of a deal for me. But hey, even March is a long way to go, and many games can be announced in that time!

I don't care really, aslong as it is out for GTA 4

I'd like to know why its taking five months to get a console ready to launch in another region. I mean, the only differences are with the output frequency of the video and different voltages, correct? So unless they are stalling so they can have plenty at launch (hah!) I don't see what the problem is.

It's a matter of getting production up to par to keep a consistent amount of console throughput to all regions. They don't want to suddenly launch all over the world while console production is still in it's infancy and suffer from world wide shortages (ala 360).

They are also waiting for a noteworthy software lineup. The Eu areas will get a significantly better launch lineup than any other territory got for the PS3, and this is more on the business strategy side, if anything. Increased software attachment rates = more money made. The JPN and US launches were plagued by poor software, with a few gems, while the EU launch will have gems and sell more software.

Yeah, that does make sense.

P.S. First post via Ubuntu 6.10 (on PC, not PS3), I finally got it sorted out, for the most part anyways. I'm still having some problems loading a few sites (Google is one of them...).
