PS3 Online

I believe Sony has already stated that there won't be a universal online thing, like Xbox Live. But do you think it should. I definitely want to play PS3 online.

Yeah I think it should. I never played on Live!, but people say it's awesome. I already play PS2 online and it's pretty good but having a universal server would be much better, it's a pain in the ass having to create different logins and friendlists to each game.

And although at E3 Sony said we would have something similar to Live!, I believe they already said we won't anymore. I just hope it improves from PS2 online.

All they need to do is allow personal servers for games. Like use your pc just as a server or just have server PC's, that way there wont wont be any dead servers or online game cancellations (EA).

Sony should offer up a Gamespy or Xfire type intergration and allow gamers to use their own PC severs for online play if they want as an option, not just the game publishers. Lots of games use gamespy now and require just one login password. But all or most pc games require login pass words yet they never complain....

I dont really care for online console gaming much especially when you need to pay subscriptions.

I worry if the console is heavly online based then games get developed more towards online and single player becomes almost an after thought. They rely on online to provide the gameplay and lasting appeal.

I fully understand ViperGTSR01's point, but I do like playing online myself. Not having a universal network doesn't bother me too much though.

Having a universal server, I think, would be nice. Although, this would most likely mean paying for a subscription. But, isn't the standard, or Silver, subscription for 'Live!' free for Xbox 360? I believe that the only subscription that you would have to pay for is a Live! Gold.

This was a great idea, and I think Sony should follow with something similar. Have a basic universal server for free with the console with an optional upgrade which costs extra. I say this because some people would like the premium, but I would just want the basic online setup for free.

Live for PS3 would kick so much ass. I hope they change their minds. I wouldn't mind paying $50 a year. That's not bad... less than a cost of a game, really.
It adds so much to the games and quality too. It's got to be only a matter of time 'til they make something ...... oh well.

There would be a wireless wifi modem in the PS3 I believe. If they put that in and don't have a decent online service that would be pretty useless, wouldn't it be so? The news about them not starting up a centralized online service pretty much popped up in game communities, I haven't heard any official press statements saying that there won't be any. Of course this doesn't mean that it will be created though.

i couldn't give a monkeys uncle if they put the PS3 online, online play dosnt interest me what so ever. If they add online then all the better for those who want it but for me its offline all the way.

Nintendo DS has built in WI-FI and no online service........

Imagine LAN games with no wires and no adpters to have no wires. No need to ever buy a cable to play system linked games. Best part is all systems come that way.

Wi fi gives it wireless connectivety to the PSP for whatever planed features its going to have. I know not everyone is going to care but not everyone will have braodband internet to care about wi fi.

Full syetem features have not been revealed and if its anything like PSP then its full features could be revealed later after its released.

It doesn't matter what you or me want; you should have the option of playing online if you want to. The door shouldn't be shut on you and not have any form at all. If someone doesn't want to play online, the don't, but Sony shouldn't limit everyone and put them all in the same basket as ones who don't want the online component.

No, I don't really care if they have some online center like XBox, or whatever.

What I do want is the ability to download updates for games like new levels, new characters, more weapons, new moves, different uniforms or outfits, download game saves for levels to be unlocked that you cannot unlock yourself, etc. This can be done by the game developers at their websites.

Or, and a place, or even come to a game website like this one, where you can share game saves very easily. For example, didn't get all gold in GT5, but somebody else did? They can store their game save to a website so anybody can download it so they can play with all the bonus cars.

Something like that would be cool.

Isn't it much more interesting to attend LAN parties instead of playing online all the time???

I tried it with several pc (Toca race driver 2, FlatOut, GTL) games and got bored real quick. Sitting with your friends in the same room and play over a network sounds much more appealing to me than online gaming.

That's what we have cheatcodes for. ;) :) there's something wrong with my sentence and I can't figure out what.

This is all going to be possible right off of the bat, since PS3 should be able to write to Compact Flash, SD, and Memory Stick Duo as memory cards (though I have extremely strong suspicions that it will only use the Duo as a memory card, the others will be strictly for storage or importing data).

Once you save to your Memory Stick Duo, you could easily plug it into your card reader (assuming you have one) and then upload the file to a site. Very easy process. This is all under the assumption that the file save process will reflect what we have seen on the PS2, where files can be copied and transfered etc. If that is the case, then trading files will be easier than pie.

But then you also have to beware of bugged saves, hacked saves, etc. I remember (back when DexDrive was still around) there were multiple saves of FFVII going around that were "corrupted" intentionally and would wipe out your memory card completely. Very bad times, but I don't really know if that's possible anymore with MagicGate...but anything can be overcome, lol.

Those free demos downloads at Live! for Xbox360 seems to be making a lot of success. I wouldn't mind such feature on the PS3. :D

Right but if you look at it from the poor mans perspective. No hdtV, no HDD, no broadband. Xbox360 seems more like a luxury than just a gaming console. But an HDTV is a luxury in its own right.

Hey that sounds kinda like a good Revoluton marketing scheme :).

The nintendo DS does have an online service. It's called Nintendo WFC (Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection).

They host three games currently:

Mario Kart DS
Animal Crossing WW
THPS DS

Soon to come we'll see Metriod Prime Hunters and a fighting game based on the popular Japanese anime Bleach that will be 4 player online.

Just a little tid bit I thought I'd throw in :)

I don't know about this Live! thing. I mean I already pay good cash monthly for a hi speed connection, I'm gonna dish out good money for this PS3 and then you want me to subscribe to a Sony based server or whatever. I mean I've tried playing online and it's tough to get into, it always seems that I'm getting a smack down or some type of shalacking buy some guy in nowheresville who's got the same rating as I do. It's deterred me from going online as much but then throw in the fact that I've already made a hefty investment in all this gear and services and then you want me to dish out more??!! Let's put it this way.....uh..No Thanks!! Leave it the way it is.

Eh, no ones said you'll have to pay to conenct to Sony servers, infact Sony have already said they won't be operating thier own servers which means they won't be charging yu to connect to them. Like all internet connections you may have to pay your ISP a fiver a month or so, but thats down to the ISP and they charge what, ten quid upwards for PC connections. XB Live charges you to access Microsofts servers, £30 for the year to play online.

I wonder if the PS3 can be interfaced with private server PC's.

Why would I, or anybody, be afraid of downloading saved games from the Internet? How can outside sources get to files available for download at a game website and mess with the files? Can hackesr actually go to say, Konami, and mess with a MGS4 file for download?

I see no security risks with bad game files, unless you went to a website you're not familiar with, and start downloading files that might contain a virus. But who would do that?

I mean, we come to trusted websites, and the game's actual developers (like how Sony said they most want it) and download files from there. I would never trust downloading a file from somebody I didn't know, or from a website I've never been to before. Of course, this leaves the game developer to decide weather or not they want to charge for these downloads, again, just like Sony suggested.

But, if I did download from an unfamiliar website, I could download to a special card that only had a backup of my game. That way, if there were problems with the downloaded files that say erased my card, or whatnot, I would still have a saved game on another card.

Could a virus mess with a PS3, and do any real permanent damage? Would anybody be so bold as to do something like that? I doubt so, because I'm sure Sony would put a hurting on the stupid bastard who tried it, and would warn the website that had the file and threaten a lawsuit if the file wasn't taken down.

Has a PS2 ever been damaged by a virus so badly, or at all, that it had to be repaired?

leave it to Solid to challange or disagree with anything I say.

You are so ill informed it's funny, but I'll spare you the details and big words, you'll just get upset anyway, and I really don't feel like posting anything you won't read, you'll simply skim and then shoot back with some awkward claim, as you have done already. I talked about corrupting memory card files and you went off to talk about damaging hardware off of a virus, which isn't possible.

Also, you mentioned downloading "game saves". I'm pretty sure that Konami, or any other company, isn't going to provide you with a completed game save, EVER. That can ONLY be obtained via a 3rd party source, aka an end user, like people who visit GTP. ANd just because this is a trusted site, does not mean that everyone on the site can be trusted.

But whatever, you always feel anything I say in response to you is negative, always wanting the last word, always always always...I'm tired.

Good night.

My questions are legitimate, and on topic. They're available for anyone to answer. You don't need to address it since I never quoted you, or mentioned your name.

Stop acting like huge asshole regarding my posts, especially if you're not going to answer them properly. It's this kind of behavior from you that makes you so unliked.

Like I said before, why do we need saved game files if we have cheat codes (from codjunkies) or I'm that stupid that I'm missing the point??? Using saved game files is also cheating. :)

Where are new additions for the game going to come from? Cheat codes can't make new uniforms, weapons, levels, characters, moves, etc.

Now, in general; game websites will offer that to users. When did I mention the dowloads will be completed game saves? Never. Somebody was making up stuff again.
