PS3 Online

Im eager to see what they have to offer for an online service, and I think its something they NEED to do.

Although I don't see myself willing to pay for XBL and Sony Online, I dont even have or want a PSP so those extra features are useless to me. Everything that was mentioned in that survey makes it sound like it could be exactly the same as XBL, that is, if they really do pull this off.

To clear one thing up, 360 does support a USB keyboard (contrary to the belief of that writer from ps3fanboy.com or whatever the site was) in the dashboard if you would rather type your text messages. Don't know if any games support it, probably not.

Is this new info or just blowing off?
Supposed new Sony Online service for the PS3 to be called "Playstation HUB".

Next-gen.biz have the original news. www.next-gen.biz
I don't normally comment on speculative stuff like this but the online name etc seems plausible (they'd look silly if Sony calls it something else).
As for the release dates....hmmmm...
Can't say I've seen this anywhere else. Bogus?

Its fine the way it is now. I'd never want to pay to play online.

you my friend have probably never played xbox live =( poor you it is so fun sharing a game with your friends online is just awesome. and seriously if ps3 doesnt implement a universal online service i might not even consider getting one and ill go with xbox 360 with its halo3 and im pretty sure there will be another good racing sim on it. seriously sony has the time and i will be dissapointed to no end if i cant play gt5 online

The Xbox live subscription is a nice added bonus to games. All too often I lose interest in a game once I have completed it. Playing online does add longevity to games. Apart from getting all platinums in PGR3 (I'm about 1/4 way through) it has no replayability except for online playing. Also it's generally far better playing against people rather than (very) artificial AI.

However there are plenty of idiots out there too and sometimes it can ruin your experiance. Still, that comes with online play regardless.

As for paying for subscription, £40 isn't so bad for 12 months, considering mmorpg's and the like can cost £10 or so a month.

The best thing about Xbox 360 Live is the extra content. Downloading trailers and demo's and arcade games. However, even if the PS3 does not have a unified online model similar to Xbox Live for online gaming it certainly will have extra content from film trailers, demo's, music downloads etc.

Whatever Sony do it'll (probably) be better than their current online service. And that can only be a good thing.

whats the deal with playstation 3 network? all im hearing from other xbox users is that its a lagfest compared to live. alot of this is fanboy belief and exaggerations but id like to know what you GTP'ers think about it

can anyone post a comparison link or inform me if any of this is true or not?

My main gripe with LIVE is that they charge you for using a P2P service! If they at least had dedicated servers it wouldn't be so bad!

Using P2P also means it requires the hosts to have higher bandwidth lines than if it was a dedicated server, and as a result you cant have as many people playing as you can using dedicated servers due to the lag it would cause.

Its a cheap and nasty solution to the problem of how your going to host the games.

Im pretty sure that even the PSN uses dedicated servers, I know it doesn't quite compare to LIVE yet, but it will in the not too distant future if Sony start getting their act together.

As for lag in games that's down to 1 of 2 things, either the players have low bandwidth lines, or the PSN servers are being hammered and Sony need to upgrade them to ones that can handle more bandwidth!

I believe Sony has already stated that there won't be a universal online thing, like Xbox Live. But do you think it should. I definitely want to play PS3 online.

It funny how far we came.

Now I think, Personal choice, that the PSN might be a lot better now then Xbox Live.

All we are still missing is that patch to come out anytime now for the XMB while playing games. So finally we can Message Friends online without quitting the game!

Also to the post above.
Games I play on xbox were Gears of War, halo 3, Ghost recon. Only Ghost recon had almost lagless servers. the other games I really LAG! :(
For the PS3 games, Resistance (40 players) Warhwack (32) Motorstorm ( 16 i think) have really almost no lag for me. GT5P is really laggy with 16 (same goes for PC racing games but with 22 players +
Games like Resistance and Warhwack both with max players can be play with Dedicated so thats why no lag, but I play with User created servers which had a lot less people 16 or so but still had almost 0 Lag...

So Xbox P2P thing or PS3's dedicated servers, I guess it don't really matters, pretty much all the same to me. So in the end I say the are about the same for me. But I think when in Dedicated Sony spends bit more money so with 32 player or 40 player I never experience LAG and its all free, Im sticking with PS3 on this one.

In the end I love more of Dedicated then P2P. Same goes for PC games most games use Dedicated servers with LOADS of people and is FREE, always way less lag and quicker singing ins.

I don't have a 360 but I have never had any problems online with lag on the PS3, I find the online great and the fact it is free makes it even better.
