I've recently moved from the US to Japan. I brought my US PS3 over. The first thing that I noticed is that there are no NEMA 5-15 outlets in Japan so you have to buy an adapter. So I went out and purchased an outlet port that has 4 NEMA 5-15 plugs and plugs into the outlet with JIS C 8303(looks identical to NEMA 1-15). So I thought problem fixed. I go to turn on my PS3 and it boots up no problem. When I begin to play a game though the controller reception becomes super laggy. delay is probably .5 to 1 second. I checked everything and the only thing I can think of is the power supply. Anybody know if that would be the reason for the delay? If so, is there a way to buy an official PS3 adapter that would fix this problem?

Maybe something like this? I can't really read japanese but this looks right.

I can't read Japanese either, but that looks about right. It's odd that such a problem would arise at all though...

I agree. But I could barely play GT5 because the delay was so bad. I usually use a steering wheel but have played GT5 with a controller a few times. The delay was significantly noticeable. It was also noticeable within the XMB.

It's probably a problem with the TV's display rather than the PS3. What TV do you have and how is it connected to the PS3?

Doubt it, its a 3 month old Sharp Aquos Quattron connected via HDMI. I highly doubt that is the problem.

With an adapter, it would either work, not work or blow up wouldn't it. I have never heard of anything like this before.

I doubt it would blow it up. In Japan they only use 100 Watt 50 hrz outlets. Well I can't really see a lower power output cause it to blow up. But who knows

I sure don't that's why included it as an option. Maybe you should move your thread to the Electronics sub-forum, they might be someone there who can help you a lot better than I can.

I can tell you now that the power will have nothing to do with you PS3 lagging. In the whole world there are only 2 power standards and the slight differences with Hz and a few volts etc do not matter at all. Changing cords won't make a difference either as its the plug on the end that matters.

I'm thinking its most likely your TV, it might have lag on it that you didnt experience with your previous one and it being an LCD its always going to have lag. I would try at set the TV to game mode or try your console on a CRT and see if you have lag there.

see i'm having trouble with it potentially being the TV. My TV in the States was a Sharp Aquos and my TV here is also a Sharp Aquos. I assume they can't be THAT different can they?

TV's even of the same model sold in different countries are very different, the only thing they might have in common is the panel but most of the processing and hardware innards will be geared to the Japanese market with their TV broadcasts, equipment and standards. Unless its massive lag (which would signify a fault) I think its just down to regional differences.

There is a small chance that it could be your blu ray drive but thats unlikely because the game would be freezing. I seriously would try you PS3 on other TV's just to check.

I'll try that tomorrow and see how it works

It's the controller input that is lagging? If so, reset the controller. As much as anything, removes the possibility of things it could be, like with Robin's suggestion of trying it on another telly.

Good for you but I still don't understand how a TV can affect gameplay. The PS3 was was just faster then it I guess.:dunce:

I guess it's just a setting. I live with my grandparents here in Tokyo so maybe they have there TV set to lag since they're old and can't keep up with the high speeds lol.

All TV's have different amounts of lag in milliseconds because of the conversion of input to the screen and also how the screen works, its not really even publicized what these figures are for each TV because manufacturers don't want people (or rather gamers) to run a mile when they see a high lag number.

LCD's have the highest lag but turning them to game mode can do wonders because it cuts down on all the processing done inside the TV. Plasma TV's have the lowest lag because the panel technology alone makes it faster (its a flat CRT basically).

Different TV worked.

Glad you sorted it out 👍
