So I was watching SALT last night and my PS3 froze up in the middle of it(40gb old model).. so I had to reset it the hard way (rear switch) and when I booted it back up it no longer reads any discs, blu ray dvd cd etc.. I've Googled around and found that I either have to ship it to sony or attempt to fix it myself, my technical expertise isnt very high, not sure I'd trust myself to take the thing apart and fix it without a problem.
So I was wondering if anybody has shipped theirs to Sony.. is it worth the service fee versus buying a new slim model. Do they actually fix the thing, or send you a new one? I swapped out my 160gb hd for the original 40gb so I wouldn't have to back up anything but I have a pretty sick KZ2 vinyl cover on it, will that be gone? :\
Any help is appreciated.
(Yes I searched, and the one thread that came up didnt help)
