PS3- Red screen of death

Hi Guys

I had the red screen of death today :nervous: and was wondering if it can be fixed. I've tried the USB version update solution and it didn't work, tried entering recovery mode to restore the ps3, didn't work. I know this isn't specifically a GT5 issue but if it can't be fixed I'll lose all my data including my GT5 data therefore all my cars :guilty: just wondered if you guys have any other solutions, I don't want to have to fork out £100-200 to fix it.

I beleive if you shut it off and boot it in safe mode you can restore everything and you'll be ok. That's my understanding.

EDIT: Didn't see you already tried. Disregard my post.
 
This happened to me before, In my case no recovery menu option helped.

I had to format the HDD with a PC. Then insert back into the ps3.
PS3 formats it again. Playstation works, but all data lost.
