Have any of you ever sent in your PS3 for repair? Currently my PS3 HDMI output is not working. I'm going to try a different HDMI cable soon, but I doubt that's the problem. The HDMI cable is rather loose and I think the connector is bad.

So, I have some questions for you.

1. How long did it take to get your PS3 back?

2.What did you get repaired and much did it cost you?

3. Were you happy with the service?

Just curious.

Ask Beerz :dopey:

From what Beerz is experiencing, he sent his PS3 away, what a month ago now, for repair although a more serious probelm than what it sounds like your has and he still hasn't got his back.

I'm assuming you've already tried to reset your PS3s video output mode ?...

A few other guys have sent there playstations off for repair, wait till they respond in here... I think someone got it back in like 3 weeks.

From powered off, hold down the power button until you get another beep - around 10 secs IIRC..

Yeah, I've done that several times. No luck. I've had problems with the HDMI cable going out on me when it was stepped on, or the PS3 moved. I figure it has to be the connection.

I take it you have now tried another HDMI cable and also jigged the cable in the PS3 socket?

Have to tried other HDMI equipment with your TV? It may be the TV's input having issues or the cable is loose at that end.

Have you tried the AV output on the PS3 (the normal cables) to see whether no video is being output at all by the machine?

Just trying to troubleshoot here... :)

Robin.

Yeah, I've come up with the same thing myself. Haven't tried them yet. I don't know where my PS3 box is, which has my old video out cable, of course. I have other HDMI cables attaching other video gear to my HDTV set, but I can't reach them, due to my mobility issues.

I was planning on just getting a new HDMI cable from Monoprice, which is in the next town over. To be honest, I think my problem is a bad HDMI connector. It's been squirrelly since I got my PS3.

Thanks for the ideas, though. I appreciate the help. 👍

Hey mate, don't know if it helps, but mine broke, it just stopped playing discs completely and an egg timer stayed in the top right of the screen when i tried to play anything. They didn't take mine for repair, instead they replaced it at my door in less than a week after my call. They simply swapped a new one for my broken one. Of course under warranty. I was quite chuffed with the excellent service.

are you in the UK? They always do that in the UK, just standard procedure, even with the PS1 and PS2, but from what iv read you have to send it away to them in the US.

It's not the PS3. It's the HDMI cable. I switched out the HDMI cable for a cheap HDMI cable that came with a DirecTV HR20 receiver.

I paid $75 for an 'industrial strength' cable, and it only last 16 months?! Bull chips!

What HDMI cable do you guys have, and does it work flawless? Mine would shut down if I moved the the PS3 around, sometimes needing me to reset my PS3. Frustrating when playing a game, trust me.

I have one of these. It works well, but I don't move my PS3 around. Many people have gotten them off of monoprice and reported good results.

With digital connections the quality doesn't matter that much. I think you should give your cheap cable a try.

we use a cheap ass one. According to the guys over at the AVforums all HDMI cables produce the same results, due to it been digital. And to be honest the picture is spot on.

I use a £25 HDMI cable from Argos, there's no need to spend stupid money on one.

HDMI is an international standard, they all have to be made to a comply with certain specifications, the only difference between a £10 one and a £70 one is that the £70 one might use gold connectors or be oxygen free, but because the signal is digital that doesn't mean jack!

With a digital signal you either have a signal or you dont! There's no in-between like there is with an analogue signal.

What iv just said above it pretty much exactly what our lecturer told us (he's the head of the Electronic Engineering dept) and he knows his stuff!

I have the same one only in the 8 foot version.

The reason why I spent so much on a HDMI in the first place was the design of the cable I purchased. It was thick and well insulated. It was going to be placed across a foot path so I figured I needed the extra 'protection' to help make it last. Turns out the thick cable was so stiff it wouldn't bend out of the way as easily and that put too much stress on the connector making it loose.

The second reason I spent so much was the length of the cable. I needed at least 12 feet. You couldn't find many HDMI cables over a year ago in this length for less than $50. Now, I have choices.

Still, I would like to know, beforehand, how much I can depend on a certain cable. So far, I think I'll get the Phillips 12' HDMI cable at Wal-Suck which is $50.

I appreciate your guys help. Thanks. ;)

Its true that HDMI cables all deliver the same results (being digital)... it just how much you want too say "look at my $1000 cable" that will effect how much you spend! :sly:

Glad you got it sorted Solid Lifters 👍
