Only Shift's PS3 Game Save is copy protected. This basically means that you are one crash away from losing EVERYTHING that you have ever done. Your Career, your Garage, your Decals, your W/L record...

EVERYTHING.

I had a LONG discussion with EA's Tech Support about this issue, and was fobbed off with one pathetic and transparently illogical reason after another, so it's a closed issue with Shift. I pay extra attention to saving my data at the end of every session, and haven't had a crash in quite a while (but had two earlier this year, dropping me to zero from Level 50 and losing all my tweaked cars), but I come across Friends and familiar racers all the time who are racing with MUCH lower records than they used to have. The issue has NOT gone away.

EA have stated to me definitively that they will NOT unlock Shift's save data, no matter WHAT the inconvenience to the PS3 players. So I, in response, told them DEFINITIVELY that I would NOT be buying Shift2 under any circumstances if the Game Save is still protected. Hot Pursuit's PS3 game save is NOT protected (at least in the demo) and neither is the Shift1 XBox and PC game saves, so obviously EA doesn't REALLY care about the issue.

So..... if you would, I encourage every single PS3 Shift player to directly contact EA (do NOT post on the EA forum, as EA simply don't read it!) and make the same pledge. Especially with GT5 soon to drop, it's not going to matter so much to you if you HAVE to miss out on Shift2, so NOW is the time to ratchet up the pressure on SMS/EA. If we ALL tell them that we won't be buying their next game unless this major inconvenience (for no apparent reason) is rectified, who knows? PERHAPS EA might take the necessary steps...

This has been discussed many times. EA will not budge because they like to charge people for unlocking everything. It's something I think Sony should ban developers from doing.

It's worth noting though that it only takes a few hours to reach level 50. Hazyview Eight, 20 lap drift event is your friend. It's an easy method to gain at least 80k points every time you do it. To reach level 50 you only need 500k.

EA don't charge for unlocking the save data... They simply refuse to do it at all.

BUT... they are perfectly happy with the XBox and PC versions being unlocked, and they seem perfectly happy with Hot Pursuit's PS3 game save being unlocked, and NONE of my other driving games (Dirt2, Burnout Paradise and GT5p) have locked game saves.

EA simply got it wrong, and the usual arrogance prevented them from correcting their mistake (because correcting it would imply that it WAS a mistake, and EA don't make those, do they?:dunce: )

Once again, I encourage EVERY LAST PS3 SHIFT PLAYER to write directly to EA and tell them....

No save game backup, NO SALE!:grumpy:

They do charge for 100% unlocks. Look at Skate 2 and Skate 3. Also Dirt2 is locked to your PSN ID.

Well, sorry, I don't play those games, but is that EA or is it the game developer? And Dirt2 CAN be backed up...

I don't give a rats whether the save is tied to my ID or not. In fact, that's how it should ALWAYS be, so cheaters can't swap game saves. But you SHOULD be able to make an offline backup of ALL game saves, so if you have a hardware problem (or a power glitch during a save), you can 'restore' your game progress. If people swapping game saves is the cost of that, well, that's FAR less inconvenient than being drop kicked back to zero after you have completed the game and carefully tweaked your entire Garage...

The fact the SMS/EA don't even give you a way to save a text file of your Garage's data means you have to WRITE down each and every car's settings... How 19th century is THAT?:yuck:

Once again, PLEASE....

Tell EA you won't buy Shift2 if it has a protected game save. It's the ONLY way we won't get shafted again.

EA are the developer and publisher of the Skate franchise. I think they were the first developer to begin locking game saves on the PS3, then charging people to have a 100% unlock.

I never said Dirt 2 couldn't be backed up.... I said it is locked to PSN, which it is and how I feel developers should go about locking game-saves. However that method still doesn't eliminate the sharing of game saves.
