PS3 Slim and GT5? Will it close the deal for you?

Well I'm slightly disillusioned. I woke up this morning and first watched the PS3 Slim video. I was literally punching the air and clapping. I was saying to myself "Way to go Sony, you guys finally did it!". There I was thinking Sony will now win the console war. I was awaiting the big GT5 to really close the deal with me, but... Then I realized there is no GT5 trailer. Then I read the GT5 confirmed features, albeit the translation of it. Now I'm quite sad to be honest. Here are the things that spell "FAIL" to me about GT5 :

-No confirmation of livery editor (paint editor, decals, vinyls, etc)
-No confirmation of external tuning parts (removal of existing or adding of after market exhausts, body kits, wings, canards, window tinting, carbon fibre parts etc)

I don't want a car designed by PD, I want my very own, I am an individual.

-Possibility of No interior for all cars or No damage for all cars (translation makes things a bit unclear but either way it would be a massive disappointment, should both of these statements be misread it may make me forgive all the other shortcomings:tup
-No confirmation of ability to roll cars over as a result on an accident (needed feature, especialy, after seeing some of the latest games simulate that in spectacular fashion)
-No confirmation of drag racing (as boring and simple as it may be it's just fun and no driving game should be without this type of competition)

I want the full GT5 package, in now way am I prepared to wait for DLC or GT6 to get what I want, not after how long I've been waiting for GT5. To be honest I've been waiting for these features since GT2, so that's over a decade. No more, I'll settle for Forza Motorsport 3.

-Confirmation of NASCAR and WRC licensed competitions (if indeed those are the only licensed ones)
-No confirmation of Porsche, Maserati, McLaren manufacturers (I'm referring to the McLaren F1 model)

Why not the Japan, Europe or US, GT and Super GT competitions? Why not F1, F2000 or many other open-wheel competitions? Why not many of the single model competitions around the world? Why not IndyCar? Even that competition is more interesting and fun to play than NASCAR. If they do confirm they have plans to release these competitions as free, or not, DLC, I may forgive this bad choice of licensed competition. As for missing out on Porsche, Maserati, and the McLaren F1, well, I don't need to emphasise just how disappointing that would be.

There are of course many things about GT5 that will make it a fantastic game and I do see the GT5 being a popular game. I've been a GT fan all my life, and in my heart I want it to be the better driving game. But there are a fair few shortcomings at the moment. I understand other GT fans will try to be positive, or forgive or indeed lie to themselves that there's more there it's just that PD are holding back. But I like to work with facts not delusion. I want Sony to have my hard earned money, but at them moment it's not looking so. I do still hold out hope though.

EDIT: Off-Topic: GTM, Why? GTM would not win the console war, GT5 would! The time and publicity wasted on GTM was a very bad idea. GT5 should have come first, then GTM.

Stop complain and wait for full info not a small info.. It does says Garage shop for parts, it just does not specify anytime in particular..

PD only wrote the most important features of GT5, later we get the little detail.

By the time I posted it, the thread moved two pages. So I decided it may make a good new thread. In any case I'm not telling anyone how to run their business, these are just my opinions from a personal point of view. I have invited others to post their own. You chose to make a couple of personal comments aimed at me. Why the aggression? If you are unhappy with my thread, don't post. I'm not forcing you to read it or comment.

I'm not a new member, I just don't post a lot. I am not a "troll" or whatever you call it. And yes I mentioned Forza Motorsport 3 because one can't ignore the main competitor on an inferior and poor build quality console and an online service one has to pay for. I hope you are happy to realize I'm looking at things in a fair way and trying to make the best decision that will suit me. Not telling you or anyone else what to do. If you feel differently please post, look at the thread title...

Win the console war? is that the condition that needs to be fulfilled before you buy a ps3 and GT5?

Well I don't think it's pointless. For example the V8 Supercars competition has just been announced by T10 today and I saw another FM3 trailer from the conference that made made me a bit jealous to be honest. You see, may not mean a lot to you but on my part of the world V8 Supercars is a big motorsport.👍

So yes, not one glimpse of full damage, or all the features I've mentioned in my initial post. Not even a GT5 trailer, just some confusing information on the GT5 website which is taken down a few hours later. Yes, I am sad and yes it feels like yet another stupid move which will alienate us GT fans further. It's especially frustrating when I know that the PS3 is a better console and now the PS3 Slim is an irresistible buy. But I'm not buying a PS3 Slim in September when I haven't even seen proper GT5 gameplay footage or a definitive list of features for GT5. Even if I do, with this lack of info and publicity, why would I buy PS3 Slim and wait for the next 4 months on a dream that GT5 will deliver. I can have FM3 in 2 months and the XBOX360 Elite will be the same price as the PS3 Slim.

And all of this is quite poor... Sorry, I vented because I wanted to see more from KY, PD of GT5. And I may go to MS camp like many others have just because I've had enough.

Not at all, it was an Off-Topic observation I made. PS3 could still be last console, of the big 3, next year but if GT5 delivered, I couldn't care less. It just seemed like a bad move to me for a new product, PSP GO, to take away development time and publicity from the Number 1 and best selling gaming product Sony have on the market and their Number 1 best selling franchise. This seems wrong to me, that's all.

Of course GT5 should be the most polished driving game out there, they've been polishing it for longer than it's taken T10 to make FM2 and FM3, and PD have over 15 years of experience. So I expect it to be. But honestly, it's painful to see FM3 put it out there and showing off and GT5 not having anything to show.

I will review my thoughts on this thread tomorrow if we get some news or GT5 footage. I will review again in September after TGS, I will wait. But come October it's going to be a tall order to expect me to wait if FM3 is as good as it's shaping out to be...

I prefer the look of my normal PS3 to the slim. Who cares about slim, it's got the exact same hardware.

The PS3 slim would be nice if it was quieter than the 80GB model I have (which is quite noisy) but to be honest I've heard the newer models are quieter too but I'm not buying those (or the new slim) because they don't play PS/2 games and don't support SACD.

OK, I have to dissagree with you threre, strongly.

First with regards to Shift, it may end up being a better simulation than both, considering the developers working on it. Also, The collision physics in Shift look very realistic and there will definitely be rollover. So what you have will be a phenomenal driving game and without a doubt the best NFS game yet, well the best for my taste anyway. NFS Shift could have the spectacular look of GRID but the physics and realism of RacePro, plus the Prostreet cinematic appeal and presentation. Add them together and you may be looking at something really special. I know on these forums fair and honest comparisons between GT and other games are few and far between but although I prefer GT, I like to look at other games with an open mind. (I am not sure if Shift will have 60FPS though, only 30FPS may be a deal breaker for me.👎 )

Second, with regards to FM3, well, so far it's shaping up to be a fantastic game, one would be a fool to just write it off. It's got an amazing feature list, massive leap in graphical detail and a very solid, tried and tested online multiplayer mode. We're constantly seeing trailers, screenshots and gameplay footage. We have a release date and a strong presence from this title on every conceivable media...T10 have the perfect game launch playbook and they're following it down to the letter. With every game show and month to be honest, KY, PD's nose is getting bloodier and bloodier.

Now, we haven't seen the feature list, the release date, or even any GT5 gameplay footage to compare. It could have all the features of FM3 and Shift and put them both to shame, to retain it's crown as The Ultimate Driving Simulator. But we have no guarantee or concrete promises. Just a bunch of comments from KY, some botched and confusing press releases and a pathetic Concept Trailer, a Concept Trailer after more than 5 years of waiting. All we have is hopes and dreams. I remember the years prior GT4 and how those hopes and dreams went.

Dude there is no main course at the moment. What you have to understand is that there is here is no menu and there is no spoon, (Sorry, big Matrix fan.)
