Are You Going To Buy a PS3 Slim?

I'm sure me and some others who are Hi-Fi fanatics are a bit disappointed becuase for quite some time Sony promised a firmware that will make the original PS3 able to output Dolby and dts lossless via bitstream, now this slim model is able to do that and my $625 80gb (MGS4 bundle) cann't!!

I find it really disgraceful to market a product in such a way, so now even my Yamaha RXV-2800 stereo reciever will have to settle to the PCM signal from the good old PS3.

If I were Sony I would recall the older units and retrofit them with the new chip otherwise the logos of "Dolby True HD and dts HD-master audio" is misleading to be printed on the old PS3.

I wish Sony is listening!

It will make no difference. If it is output via bitstream, then your amp will decode it. If it is LPCM, then the PS3 decodes it and sends it to the amp as raw audio data.

Both will sound exactly the same, because both are exactly the same.

The PS3 can decode TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, so it is not misleading to print it on the side. It is in fact, correct. What would be misleading is if it only output bitstream, and THEN they put the logos on, since you'd still need an amp that could decode them (which are, mostly, still pretty pricey, whereas an amp that can accept LPCM is not necessarily so).

ain't bad at all but got my 120 gb already :(

The Slim looks much better in White, a lot more classy. As for the Final Fantasy artwork I think it would have been better in Blue or Black not Pink!
