As the title says, my PS3 stopped reading PS2 games.

It all started a 4 days ago with Gran Turismo 4,I played it twice, then when I was going to play it for the third time the screen was all black, usually the "Playstation2" logo comes after 3-5 seconds. It didn't. I've tried every day since to get it to play.

Then I started playing GTA San Andreas. I was playing it today for about two and a half hours as much. I quit the game and I believe I shut down the PS3, then, half an hour ago I tried getting GTA to work and it didn't. I tried five times, I had to shut down the console every time because it didn't leave me any other option. Then I thought "This is really awkward..". I get God of War II from my PS2 game pile and put it in my PS3.. The worst happened.. It didn't play either. I was devastated. I tried other games too, like, 007:NightFire() and SOCOM. None worked. Then I remembered that PS2 games are DVDs. I checked to see if any DVDs of mine worked on the console and they actually did.

The other weird thing is that my PS3 games work.

what PS3 do you have? is it an original 60GB with EE-GS onboard or it is one where PS2 compatibility is done by emulation?

Then your PS2 games are run by emulation, if you have tried DVD's and they work fine you can most likely rule out a hardware problem (phew!) but then it must be something to do with corrupt firmware, maybe some options under settings have been reset?? sorry im not much help as I have a 60GB...

Its possible, yes... try removing them all from your system (back them up if you want) and try the games again.... Other than that the only thing I would recommend is a system reset but ive forgotten how you do it.. :ill:
