Ps3 stuck on stupid

I started having some lock up problems tonight and after a couple of restarts and lock ups I restarted it this last time and I now have a the into music and then it goes to the star field screen w/ the horizontal ribbon doing it’s rolling ocean impression and no nothing. The ribbon rolls up and down like it’s floating in the water and no “select which login you want to use” screen…….. WTF……..HELP

Try using the service mode options.

Hold the power down for 4 seconds until it beeps servral times, this clears custom user settings.

If it keeps freezing could be bad firmware or bad HDD.

If I'm not mistaken, one beep is resetting your user setting as well as your screen settings. But if you hold it down for longer then it brings up a system menu.

Also, just to add onto Grayfox' comment, you need to hold down the power button while turning the system on.
