And my other problem is how am I going to get sound the screen has no speakers on it the speakers are connected to my computer soo will I not be able to have volume or is there a way to get volume help me out show me links to what I need to get for volume if its possible thanks.

REason im doing this is i have to travel every weekend to another house and the tv there sucks ass this screen is easy to carry.
thanks

last i checked (and i asked in a sony store) it is not possible to hook a PS3 up to a computer monitor, but i never tried a HDMI to VGA cord (they exist?)

sound, you could find an old component lead, and splice it into some headphones, and then tel it to use that as the audio output, but all bets are off on volume, that or use the digital output, but i'm sure an entire sound system is harder to carry than just your TV...

recommendation: take your TV, or just tough it out.
i used to play my PS3 on a 20inch mono speaker crap box, but it was still PS3

Do HDMI->VGA cables exist?

Anyway, of course you can hook up your PS3 to a PC monitor, I had mine running on a 24" SAMSUNG via a HDMI->DVI-D cable. If you want to have sound you need a receiver/amplifier (or you plug your PS3 into the PC speakers), you can split audio and video in the PS3 settings.

Well to use the PS3 HDMI you will need to convert the HDMI to DVI and then convert it to VGA. This item here will convert the HDMI to DVI. Then you take this adapter and connect it to the HDMI to DVI adapter. Then you just hook up the vga cable from the monitor to the PS3. Then to get the sound out of your PS3 to your computer's speakers you need to hook up the included composite video cable to the PS3. Then you use this adapter to convert the red and white cable into a female stereo port. You then take your speaker cable and hook it up to the adapter.

Then there are the special devices that are made to convert hdmi to vga but they can be pretty costly.

It doesn't work that way.

First off, HDMI is a digital signal, VGA is an analog signal, at no point in your chain of adapters is the HDMI's digital signal getting converted to an analog signal, all it's doing is changing the type of connector you are using.

It only works for a PC (DVI-I) because the DVI still outputs an analog signal (RGB) along with the digital signal.

Secondly, PS3 uses HDCP with HDMI, meaning, unless you have an HDCP capable display and a HDMI/DVI cable, you won't get a picture.

Well, I used my Samsung 226BW 22" with my PS3, by using a HDMI cable with a HDMI to DVI adapter, and it worked fine. Since you can't go from HDMI to VGA, I went from my computer to the VGA input on the monitor, and then the DVI input was used for the PS3.

And now I'm using my LG W2353V, except this monitor has an actual HDMI input, so it takes away the adapter.

As for audio, at first I used the RCA cables (red and white) from the PS3, and then got another cable to convert RCA to headphone jack, and plugged that into the Audio In port on my sound card on the computer. It worked great, just no 5.1 surround... Or if you have a sound card with Optical In, you can use a optical cable from the PS3 Optical Out, to the sound cards Optical In.

Good luck!
