After Xbox Live dominating the PS2's counterpart, I'd be very surprised if Sony doens't have an answer to Xbox Live. I think it will be an uphill battle, but with as many customers as Playstation have, it's not exactly hopeless for Sony as Microsoft suggest. I do, however love how these two corporations talk trash. It's almost like a sport!

P.S. I really liked the Metal Gear Solid for Playstation, and MGS2: Sons of Liberty, but I'm not really into that series anymore. Resident Evil is a different story.

I hear that Microsoft is supposed to be releasing a stable version of Windows which is supposed to work as specified too. One of these years...

Anyway, Sony does have an uphill battle, but it's because of their past business attitude towards the consumer. They need to realize that gamers like companies that seem to like them. Sega and Nintendo are very gamer friendly companies. Microsoft came to realize this too, and had to make the cost of their online services attractive and offer incentives and goodies.

Sony needs to quit acting like a ruthless megacorp and start making people want to get into their online offerings, or it's going to be a slow growing community. I'll be plenty happy with my PS3 and playing Gran Turismo offline, or networked with friends, and after watching some of XBox Live online racing, I'm not enthused.

:tup:that!

The problem I have with this whole "Live" thing is that it really does'nt sell consoles, otherwise the Xbox would have been far more successful (only 10% of Xbox owners signed up to "Live"). I still feel that for the general consumer (and that means ordinary people, not people who spend hours arguing on forums - we're not ordinary :sly: ) online is not a big reason for choosing a console.
The 360's Live service is even better, but that won't attract new customers. Only price, availability and content will (though part of that content is Online functionality).
Sony does'nt need to equal Microsofts "Live" service to help shift PS3's. But I can understand them doing it as a means of bringing into the home other Sony content such as film trailers and music downloads.
Anyway, if it comes then fine. If it does'nt, well, a missed oppertunity perhaps but I doubt the consumer will be too bothered.

Does Microsoft even crunch the numbers? If sony had just 5% of ps2 owners that would be more than XBL right there. If they advertise well they could get at least 10% of new PS3 buyers with good starting software and no broken promises.

I'll be honest, i wont be anymore or less intersted in sonys service than Xbox live. I've tried live and its not all that to a casual Xbox gamer with like 2 live multiplayer games.

Thak

Capcom also said that Resident Evil Code Veronica would be a Dreamcast only title & that got ported to PS2. They said the same about Resident Evil 4 been a Gamecube only title (My mate went out & brought a GC) only for it to get a PS2 release a year later.

Fiscal numbers overcome stupidity. It was a nice run to sell gamecubes but the $$$ is in the ps2 version. Same goes for RECV but that game wasnted all that great IMO.

No, it's not out yet, but Microsoft's fox-like early strike has sent poor old Sony bananas. So PS3 will now either be cheap and not an improvement on Xbox 360, or really expensive and a small improvement over Xbox 360 but too much money for anyone to buy. Either way, there's no point bothering to make it and Sony's totally busted.

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha !!!!!! ive just wet myself.

I would'nt read anything into that. I have that particular mag and it's all for cheap giggles. The same publsher also sells the Official PS2 Magazine too.

Crap like that only works on narrow-minded idiot teenagers, and I'm all for it. The less assholes I have to compete with to get a PS3 on launch day, the chances of me getting one increase. 👍

...The official magazines are always good for a giggle. Its going to turn into trench warefare between the two camps eventually, and E3 is probably going to be when most people decide if they are going to side with Sony or Microsoft (or neither, wOOt Nintendo!) for the next gen systems.

Ive said it before and I'll say it again, unless Sony completely blows me out of the water with the next Gran Turismo, I have no reason to go out an buy a PS3... Its just that easy!

Anyway, what are you planning to do Solid? I think i am gonna camp in front of Walmart on the launch day:dopey:
For the PS2, I camped outside, in the rain, at a Circuit City store. At first, the security staff tried to kick us out. I wasn't intimidated, so we got to stay, thanks to my defiance.

All night, I had to deal with 19-year-old-somethings, saying stuff like "cool" and "dude" and "b*tch" every other word, but other than that, it was pretty quiet. I brought a cooler of goodies, and my guitar with a compact multi effects guitar processor that ran on AA batteries. Plus, a bunch of PSM magazines that were a big hit with the younger crowd.

As fun, or an experience I wont forget, as it was, I don't think I'll do it again. I've got two kids now, and a lot to do in the morning for them before heading them off to school. Dumping them off at Grandma's isn't as easy anymore if I want to sit in line all night for a video game console.

Well I do it again? I don't think so. I've done it once, and that's good enough for me. Before you think, "Wow, a 36-year-old guy in line for console is pretty sad!" there were an old couple, and an old guy in line with us that night for the PS2. Grandparents looking to score the ultimate gift for their grandchildren. They succeeded in doing just that, the day of the PS2 launch. So, don't be surprised to see old people in line for a PS3.

got my PS2 on a quiet Friday afternoon in Feb 01 in an empty store. Pays off to wait as i got used Ridge Racer and Tekken Tag and I still have both games with nice clean blue disc surfaces.

I live in a big city so i wont have to drive 25min to the nearest store, just 7-15

I actually waited till 2003 to get my PS2 and never did get a PS1. I did ask for and get Gran Turismo 3 for Christmas as incentive to get a PS3, but that didn't happen for another three months. I was still having fun with lots of great games on my Dreamcast, including Gran Turismo 2! And it looked awesome. :D

Still, when I got my PS3 I was a happy camper.

When the PS3 hits the shelves though, I'm gonna be in the pre-order line. :dopey:

I wouldnt worry, my pop is always one of the first egear beavers in line for a new console, hes never waited in line over night but he dose pre-order them ASAP.

Sorry if the post from the x-box mag was a bit sad, but i found it so funny and i wanted to share. :D

BTW Future publishings owns the Official PS2 and X-box and GC mags over here in the UK along with EDGE mag, but the gamesradar site which is also a future publishings site is on MSN networks, can enything be read into this or is it just my active imagination running wild again. :dopey: 💡 :guilty: :dunce:

In the US, Ziff Davis publishing owns the "Offical US Playstation Magazine" and "XBOX Nation", as well as "Electronic Gaming Monthly" which is supposed to be an impartial new source... There is also "Offical XBOX Magazine" which I believe is run by Microsoft, but I'm not sure, and Nintendo continues to push out their propaganda magazine "Nintendo Power."

Ziff Davis, unfortunatley, seems like they can be "bought" by the different gamemakers when doing their magazines. EGM ran two stright months of 360 coverage, and has not done much to drum up excitement for the PS3 or Revolution... That said, I cant blame them, but I am sure we would expect two straight months of Sony and Nintendo when their times come.

I have no problems with EGM. I used to read them for years, and they seemed to support all three camps(Microsoft, Nintendo & Sony). Surprisingly, they never seem to go overboard with any one console, and I appreciate that. As for Nintendo Power, that is THE saddest video game magazine I know. Only reason why I had subscription to that magazine was because they were giving away Zelda GameCube disc with the order. :D:tup:

I feel the same way about Tips & Tricks. They used to be a great triple consoie magazine, and now it's all about the Nintendo and XBox console, and the PS2 took a back seat. So, I dropped them two years ago. I wonder what consoles they mostly support now?

Well, you can probably be certain that EGM will drop it's 360 love when the PS3 comes out... They are so easily swayed by whats out these days.

As long as they arent sugar coating whats going on between the two camps, I'm allright with their coverage. Their last comparison between the 360 and PS3 seemed pretty fair, and they said it will all come down to how much money the consumer has to spend and how well the developers take to either system.
