All of the sudden, my PS3's hdmi port is dead and sound is gone for some reason. Tried different hdmi cables to no success and I get no sounds with every cable possible. Anyone know a solution or experienced this before?

PS: No need to discuss warranty, its been about 3 years since I bought my ps3.

EDIT: In addition to this, my ps3 won't even get to the second beep when holding the power button as I try to reset it. This is a slim ps3 by the way.

Uh, you could try blowing compressed air and/or very carefully cleaning the hdmi port with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol with the PS3 unplugged. If that doesn't work, then you could get the circuit board with the hdmi port from a parts PS3 and do a transplant. You'll need a T-10 screwdriver to open the PS3 though. They're really cheap on ebay, however.

If you don't want to go to the trouble of all that, you could buy a new/used PS3 and put your hard drive in the replacement console. Good luck!

Is it total loss of hdmi output, or just sound output from the hdmi? If it is just sound, have you tried deselecting and deselecting hdmi in the sound option on the Xmb? It may have had a moment and reset itself.

Yeah, I actually opened up and cleaned the PS3 with no avail. I just do not know which part or component of the ps3 needs to be checked for the sounds. Thinking about replacing the thermal paste, but I don't know if that would make a difference.

Total loss of HDMI port. I get no sounds from it and display. I tried changing the display to HDMI, but all I get is no signal. However, when I try changing the sound output to HDMI and select automatic, I get an error stating that it can't detect the HDMI cable. In addition to it, I don't get any sound even using component, av, nor optical. However as for display, I can get AV (480) and component (upto 1080.)

It is highly annoying as I can now only play games with standard resolution and no sound. Actually, I can deal with 480 res, but the lack of sound sometimes drives me nuts especially when playing BF3.

I was watching GT5 clips, and damn... I miss how the sound of the tire screeching. :ouch:

I would say, as much as doom and gloom as it may be, time to consider replacing your PS3 if you are not getting HD resolutions. The smart thing to do on your next system is to submit your next system under the Playstation Protection Plan, or whatever it is called. It is basically a warranty extension for those who are out of warranty with their consoles. It will cost you $50 for two years or there abouts, and it is a smart investment for those people who play their PS3 a lot.

Hmm, a warranty extension. Where do I get that and what does it cover? Actually, i'm not even thinking of replacing my ps3 with a new one. With the ps4 just around the corner and only playing games when I feel like which is probably just couple of hours within a week, sometimes not even turning it on for a month or so... I will probably just sell it for something. I just want to get it fix really so I can make it as my go to blu ray player and casual gaming console. Other than that, it really doesn't see much playing time.

My HDMI Port died a couple of months ago too. All I did was get a component cable; it has 1080p and is practically the same thing.

They are still a little blurry/fuzzy though.

You buy it from the PSN store. It basically covers normal wear and tear just like any other warranty. As a matter of fact, mine just expired, and I need to replace it for another year.

To fix your Blu-Ray problem, the PS4 isn't for a while yet, despite what the media is telling you, and there are actually some good games that are coming for that system. So I would replace and forget.

That probably depends more on the TV then the cable itself. I see no difference whatsoever between the component and HDMI.

The cable is analog and is dependent on the quality of the cable to deliver a signal that is not interfered from other electronic equipment. This is the reason why analog cables are recommended to get the thicker gauge cables than the cheap $10 walmart ones. Thus is the reason why you can buy any sort of cheap HDMI cable and be fine, it's a digital signal where it is 100% work or a 100% it does not work. Analog is dependent on the quality of the cable.
