Since I got GT7 the controllers for the PS4 have suddenly started dying really quickly.
They're pretty old, around 5 years I think, but both of them only last an hour or less since being used with GT7.
With GTS they lasted much longer,

Maybe they're just getting old but a bit odd for them both to go at the same time.
Only use them for scapes, liveries and mucking around the menus, not driving.

Anyone else have that issue or is it really just a bit of a coincidence?

It might be that you're using them more? Not exactly sure, but I do know that there are fairly inexpensive battery options for them and replacement is pretty straightforward.

It's probably just the time where they are becoming less able to fully charge, and stay charged, which is pretty common with modern Li-ion batteries. They have a limited amount of times they can be charged before they begin to degrade. 5 years is honestly a pretty good run if you use them frequently.

Definitely consider replacing the battery, I always wished there was a way to disable the lightbar on the top of the controller. In terms of comfort I still think the DS4 was Sony's best ever controller.

Makes it more difficult to drive though.
Really depends what you're used to. I never liked vibration function and turn it off on every single console/controller ever since PS1 with its DualShock. Yes, I don't care for any of the DualSense features either, all off on the console level. Sixaxis was so nice without extra weight added, although it was easy to remove rumble motors from the DS3/4 too, which I did. I'll have to try with DualSense too sometimes.
Can't say I have any problems with driving, but like in the post above - sound is very important to me. I did play quite a bit with sound off recently and made far more mistakes than I usually do even on simple tracks.
