Hi

Apologies if this question is not in the correct forum (hopefully is though)

I have been thinking about getting some racing games again after a long absence so I am completely out of the loop on what's been released and is coming so please bare with me

I am primarily looking for the realistic racing Sim rather than the arcade type such as:

project cars
Dirt Rally
Asstto corsa

And would be using a controller on the PS4 for now

So my questions are how are those sims on the PS4? and how do the play with a controller?

I know project cars has but do dirt Rally and assetto corsa have good single player campaign and or championships etc?

And how is the A.I. on those games?

Lastly any recommendations on any upcoming or current racing sims?

Would appreciate advice as I have done quite abit of research myself already through Google YouTube etc - I would be interested to see what people on a dedicated racing forum have to say as well.

Cheers

I would reccomend Dirt Rally with a controller, I used a controller for a while before i got my wheel. On the other two using a controller is possible but not really advised.

Dirt Rally has a career, its not very atmospheric or flashy but it works and builds the difficulty up nicely. Theres also Daily, Weekly and Monthly events that are good fun and a great way of helping you buy the more pricey cars.

With some setting tweaks you can get PCars playable, i used a controller on that for a while aswell. With default settings though its not fun and very twitchy. The career is quite in depth taking you from karts, to LMP1 and F1.

I havnt played Assetto but ive heard a controller is not advised. Ive seen it has some AI issues aswell with them be rather agressive and difficult even on the easiest setting. I Know it has a career mode but im unsure what its like so maybe youtube it, Probably a good idea for all 3 games to be honest to see if you like what you see.

Id say to look into Driveclub aswell. Its not as hardcore as Pcars and Assetto but it handles well and is good fun. Could get it for a bargain now too.

Another option could be the F1 games, I havnt played them since 2014 but they are good games and are great with a controller.

Thats basically it when it comes to "realistic" driving games on PS4, Obviously you should keep an eye out for GT SPORT when it hopefully arrives in 2017. Hope that helps. 👍

If you're a "sim" racing fan, Assetto Corsa, Dirt Rally and Project Cars are must have games, in my opinion. F1 2016, Driveclub, Sebastien Loeb Rally Evo and Ride are also extremely fun racing games that aren't quite "sim" but are great games nonetheless.

Thanks both of you for the advice it's appreciated.

I do already have driveclub and it's dlc which is great but just encourages me to get a more realistic racing game. having done more research I have decided to get

Project cars goty edition
Dirt Rally
Asstto corsa

And will definitely check out see loeb rally game and of course anticipating Gt sport

Also just out of interest I could potentially buy a wheel g29 maybe? or an xbox one with forza -so if you had the choice between an xbox one to go along side the PS4 or just get a wheel for the PS4 what would you decide assuming you can only choose one?

If your main aim is realism i would reccomend a wheel. Forza is a great game but its hardly sim like Assetto and Project Cars. If your intrested in wheels the Thrustmaster T150 is apparently very good value for money compared to a G29.

Thanks again for the reply.

Only decent wheel I used to have was the driving force Gt for Gran turismo 5 which was fantastic so that's why I suggested the G29 as it were a logitech wheel same as Dfgt?

I did YouTube some reviews of the thrustmaster wheel you said and it seems OK but with my very limited knowledge on this how would it stack up against a Dfgt or g29?

So I could afford to either get

Logitech G29

Or

T150 plus PS3 for GT6

Is there much of a difference in quality between the G29 vs T150?

Really appreciate the advice

Thanks

The T 150 would be pretty much equal or a little better than the DFGT. The G29 and T 300 are similar. My preference is T300, you can change wheel , pedals and add a shifter if you choose later down the road.

Thanks killerjimbag

The thing is I would being buying the wheel used from a shop the have a few various ps4 wheels in stock and do offer a 2year warranty

T150 is £85
G29 is £145
T300 Gte is £165 - no stock
T300 is £185

I would also need to buy assetto corsa and dirt Rally which would cost around £60...I am on a limited budget and just trying to get the best value for me.

I would never use a clutch and happy to use the paddle shifters and I used to love the Dfgt wheel on gt5.

So with all that in mind I was thinking of getting the T150 for £85 or is it really worth the extra £100 for the T300?

And should I just forget the G29? and I have read and watched many reviews etc and get very mixed opinions.

Appreciate the advice

Cheers

I believe the T300 has 1080 degrees of rotation and the G29 has 900. Uhm from what I've heard the 150 is a good wheel.

It reads a bit like you've already got a DFGT wheel. If so, this might be of interest. Even if you don't already have one, used DFGT units are dirt cheap now. A ready-made adapter can be bought here, and it would mean that any future wheel purchase would likely not have to have official PS4 compatability. We even have one member on GTP using the almighty Bodnar direct drive wheel via GIMX with PS3/PS4.

It's a slightly more complicated route, but could pay off both now and in the long run, since you could get T150 level performance and compatability while saving money for a possible future upgrade.

Dirt Rally is surprising good with a game pad. PCARS is attrocious with a game pad, and I personally think it's unplayable, at the very least not at all enjoyable. It might be ok with some tweaking of the controller settings in game, but I never bothered since I have a wheel and just tried the game pad out of curiosity. Never tried AC with a game pad.
