Hey guys. So, I've been having these issues for a while, but I'm starting to get a little concerned about it...

The XMB icons have acted weird intermittently, and I was wondering if it's possible my PS3's on its last legs. Here's an image of the XMB:

As you can tell, this isn't normal, but have any of you guys had a similar issue? If yes, how did you fix it or did you have to get a new PS3? I REALLY don't want to knock down $300 for a new one though, so I'm trying to make this last...

Please help!

Have you tried switching themes? That is, another theme containing different icons

I bought the system in 08, so any warranty is over, but so far I haven't had the issue since i tried some fixing things, like resetting the system's settings and rebuilding the ps3's HDD database, which is nice

I am running the same Setup as you (a 40 rather than an 80 Fat though)with the fan Underneath and It started making some really bad noises lately soi WHy don't you give it a good dusting off, replace the theme and take breaks between long runs

I would say switch to another theme for a while and see if it ever comes back, if it does it might be a sign of the GPU having problems which means you should really change the thermal paste and find a better way of cooling the system if you want to keep it alive.

I could also be something to do with you connection to the TV or the TV itself but its unlikely. Worth testing it out on something else though.

Robin.

It's happened again, I've also had it happen on 2 different TVs. How would I go about changing the thermal paste and stuff? :P

Search google on thermal pasting, you'll come across it easily.

But before that, you may wish to go into the PS3's safe mode, restoring the file system and rebuilding data base(back up important data first before doing any of these) and seeing if it helps out.

Again, search google and good luck.👍
