Did it come with a corpse and drugs in the trunk? :D ;) jk jk.. Manual I hope?

Lmao...the 80s wasn't that bad was it? I'm just 27 so couldn't tell if it was.

I searched I year for an 1988 but couldn't find a decent manual. The manuals I did find was all modded out and expensive. I still enjoy my auto. But I'm sure manual is even fun.

Hoping you guys cut me a break lol

How much did you get it for??

Hay slash I didn't know you be on the cars thread. Nice to see you.

Cost me 3500 bucks. Had to drive 2hrs to Pennsylvania to pick her up.

An old man owned it. He was emotional to let it go. After he took about 100 last pics with his camra and gave me about another hr lecture on how he hopes I keep her original, I have no plans to change much on it.

You just can't find these classics everywhere.

That's a very clean Camaro, great looking car 👍 I'm glad you want to keep it original, they're cheap enough to buy and modify but it's nice to have people who look after them and keep them as they were. Enjoy!

Well I know the elder seasoned car guys Keep up with there cars.

Congrats on your awesome car. Cars from the late 80s and early 90s will always have a special place in my heart, because these were the cars I saw around in my childhood. I'm also 27. :)

How is it running?

Congrats ... i remember a few years back when i was also 27, i stumbled upon and bought one of the cars i drools so much reading car and driver magazines in the mid 90s... buying our dream car used is always an evemt... i suggest you work on it yourself and take roadtrips with it... you will make the best of it memories...

Another 80 babies here

Beautiful looking Iroc! You just don't see them in good shape and original anymore :/

Good thing that's an auto also. GM never put a stick behind the camaro/trans am 350 because they didn't have a strong enough one to handle the power, according to all the things I read when searching for them a couple years ago

If and only if you are not planning to keep it stock, can you please build a life version of this ?

Kind Thanks in advance...

It's running strong for the year it's in. Just had to change all fluids, new brakes roders and get valves adjusted.

I'm also gonna be doing my own work on it through the years.

I was putting on my own brakes while my 7 yr old son watched and was rubbing on the car.

I want my son to know about my old car and be just like me lol.

I call bull on that. They were putting sticks behind 454s back in those days.

There was no stick on any California '79 Camaros, for smog reasons. I have no clue how long that lasted.

- I hope you plan on taking it to the track!

I wouldn't want to beat up on it but I will atleast get a few 1/4 times with it.

I'll take it to budds creek drag strip which is local to me.

Everything I've ever read says the 350s never had a manual behind them in the 3rd gen F body. The 305 has a manual option, but not the 350. Feel free to do some research on the topic. Maybe you'll find a site I'm not seeing? I'm just curious to know the real answer

It was more of GM being stupid than the fact that they couldn't take the power.

I had a little look myself, seems no manual option was available for the L98 350. The T-5 manual trans apparently couldn't handle the 345 ft/lbs of torque and still be reliable enough for GM to put a warranty on it. Seems to be the same story everywhere I look. Probably work fine if you don't abuse it....many have been converted to a manual.

Hay gang just posting a couple more pics.

One is a pic of the rear and tailpipes. I also gotta order a rear bumper badge

My little one was hanging out in the drivers side in the other pic where I tried to get some interior which is in kinda nice shape. Also has original cassette player, NO CD install.

I may just keep that cassette in there. Talk about keeping it stock lol. It does have a different steering wheel I think.

Leave the cassette in there. You can get an adapter to plug your iPod or MP3 player into it 👍

Looks like your steering wheel is off a Firebird.

I hope you have a mullet, because if you don't, it'll be confiscated.

This is one of my favorite Chevrolets, my dad had a similar one. I don't know what year, but it had a T-top, and the same hood as yours; It was white with gold decals. I hated the T-top as a little kid, but I'd probably like it now.

Congratulations on your purchase.

They were putting 1970s-spec heavy duty 4-speed sticks built by Muncie behind 454s in trucks back in those days (which they then replaced with a 5 speed which was initially very weak for truck duty). Not really something they could fit for Camaro use. Even the contemporary Corvette basically used the same 4 speed the Corvette used in the late 70s with overdrive gears bolted on until the dramatically stronger ZF 6 speed was made for the ZR-1 instead of the 5 speed that the Camaro/Firebird had with the 305.

They were using New Process transmissions in the trucks in the 70s and 80s geared so low it was pointless to put in the Camaro. The could have easily still used the Muncies they used in the '60s again.
