As GT5 looms closer and closer(it feels awesome to say that!!!), I keep coming to the penultimate question that races, literally, through my mind.

Do I take the day off of work and school?
Do I buy a wheel? Which one should I buy?

So I'm familiar with the wheel market, and I really like the look, feel, and design of the G27. But I'd like to have a real car and go to college, so that's out of the question.

I really, really like the look of the Driving Force GT, and I've driven with it before. The Adjustment Dial, or whatever it is, is pretty cool, and I use it in GT5P on my DualShock 3.

Another question is, should I just get a wheel that has a wheel and no pedals, or a wheel with pedals. What about a shifter? Paddle shifters or a stick?

Then the real thing I have a problem with is, whenever I have driven with a wheel, wheather it's in Fry's racing a SLR McLarren on the 'Ring, or driving a NASCAR around in a Best Buy tent at Michigan International Speedway, I suck at driving wheels quite frankly. I've grew up with GT and driving cars with a DualShock. But, since GT5 is coming, I'll have the Move (which I don't plan on driving with), PlayStation Eye, and a DualShock 3, I feel the need for a wheel.

How many people can I really compete with using a DualShock 3 while they "paint" with their car and "dance" in front of me.

Any help appreciated, and pricing and websites would help too.

I'd say go for the DFGT. Best wheel you can get when on a budget. I have a DFP but plan on getting one when GT is closer (it does feel good saying that).

The G25 isn't a bad alternative to the G27. They're the same, save for a few differences. I have a G27, and love it. There are G25's on eBay going for around $100. I would say to get one from there, then practice, practice, practice!

I would go with the DFGT so you can make sure you like using a wheel. You can find them on sale for $100(currently on sale for this price at Best Buy).

I'm going to be buying one this week.

I was the same as you, I have been playing GT since the beginning and I have played many other racing games always with a pad. I got a DFGT just over a year ago because I love cars and really wanted to see what it felt like ... plus it was on sale :)

I hated it, my times were worse and I had so much trouble controlling any car. I put that thing away and it collected dust for months. Then I decided to try it out again, wasn't as bad as before but I was still off from my pad times by quite a bit. Then when the Time Trial demo came out I was able to beat my controller times quite easily and since then I've been hooked.

The DFGT was also a great introduction and now I'm saving up for my next wheel (probably a GT3RS) and I imagine that had I started with a more expensive wheel I would have been even more irritated after spending all that money and not being able to play well. I'm still better at drifting on the pad but it just feels so boring to go back now because I find the wheel is so much fun.

So just as a tip to you ... don't give up! Stick through the tough time at the beginning and you will really enjoy it afterwards. I've noticed the same thing in other games with specialized controllers (ie: Street Fighter and arcade sticks), people get frustrated at the beginning but once they get used to it they can't go back!

If you can't afford the more expensive wheels I really think the DFGT is the best budget wheel you can buy now. I'm not sure how much the G25s cost but if you can get a good condition one for cheap that might also be another very good option plus you will get the 6spd and clutch (better pedals too). If you can wait for the Fanatec Porsche Carrera Wheel then it will be one to look at too as I've heard really good things about it and it has the 6spd shifter plus clutch as well as a lot of options on the wheel for settings. It will be more expensive than the DFGT but it will be less than the G27 (in between DFGT and G27 price wise ~$170 I think).

There are so many wheels for GT5 :)
