A suggestion.

Famine (back in the day ;) ) and I suggested that a geographical map be put on the next version of GTP, allowing seniorish members to show their exact location.

How bout this for an add-on idea. I see one (rather dead) forum I visit for aviation pics has a little country flag under the location in the member's forum profile.

That is, the member selects the country flag of their origin upon registering and it complements the profile well. A possibility perhaps?

Looks like a  idea Mike. Then we can keep our avatars for our own tastes rather than having to put our country's flag there (I have a feeling it might be suggested that if you want a flag there then to use your avatar ? )

its a cool idea mycrotch....but (i think) this forum comes as a module that you install and customise. you can change features and colours etc thats allowable in the module but if a feature isnt supported you'll have to edit the source code of the forums in order to add it and that my friend is one daunting task....

i may be wrong..

My only concern with that is that thread pages will become even longer. We already have the situation where people have all sorts of junk in their posts, that is much longer than the post itself, and I feel that this would only exacerbate the problem.

This is what GTN looks like. They use vBulletin 3.

I think it is puuuuurfect how it is, any more then we already have will just start making it look cluttered. Besides like you said, you can put the flag in the Avatar, AND.....thereis already a location spot, which doesn't always seem to be used correctly, so theres enough places in my mind where you can display where your from, plus your profile......

Yes, this can be added quite simply and it is a fairly popular addition to vBulletin. I believe the current format of posts is just right - you're given the opportunity to show your country of origin if you choose...any more looks cluttered.
