No car in the world (real or virtual) should be driven by anything else than a wheel. The slighest movement on a joystick translates into what would be violent jerking on a wheel. So much for being smooth.
Unfortunately a wheel not an option for me with my ps3.

I've reached 'International A' using a joystick. The first 'World circuit tour' went quite well. Then the trouble started. Can't keep up with the AI any longer or even keep the car on the road.
If damage was enabled i wouldn't have anything to drive after some laps.

I wonder whether i've just reached the dead end or something can be done.
I've tried enabling every help option in the controller settings and turning controller sensitivity down, but i still can't keep up or hold the car on the road.

To make things extra fun reverse doesn't work with my joystick.

Any ideas for settings or cars that are manageable with a joystick?

Do you use triggers for gas/brake? I use sensetivity around +3, tc depending on the car. If you still have problems use srf and mild steering and/or stability manegment.

Ps: 4wd cars are easyer to handle on gamepad :)

I used the ds3 controller for years up until recently and was fairly quick but certainly quick enuff to beat the AI...i set the sensitivity high and tried to be as smooth as possible with my inputs but it was much harder to control the car with most or all the aides off...you will be fine maybe you can take a look at your lines

You mentioned turning sensitivity "down"....wouldn't that be "up"? I've played using the sticks for steering (left) and gas/brake (right) since GT2 or 3, whenever it became available. My defailt mode now is set to 6 for most driving, 4 for the RedBull or some F1/Formula cars/situations. If this is your first GT, it just takes practice.

I have like no (major) problems on my PS3 controller, just the last event with the Redbull that I can't drive on my controller even tho I set the send to -2 or -3.....

But, it bothers me that no one will accept the fact that players on wheel are faster then we on controller.

I've opened a topic with Honda Wieder Raybirg on Nordschleife, and asked are the wheel player faster then controller player-answer is (average) NO!!

So, my Question is, why should I buy a wheel which costs like 200$ when I can have the "same" lap time with the usual controller?!

Conclusion;
On a steering wheel everything is better, faster and smoother....
One example, my time on Nordschliefe with Honda Wieder Raybirg (650pp) is 5:51, and somesay that time can be"easily"beaten. LOL...

Ok, record the drive and prove it.....

From playing GT and some XBox games I quickly noticed that I had a harder time with the xbox's VERY short analog sticks. Always preferred the PS3 sticks for their taller height. Tall sticks = much easier to make micro-adjustments. Same with some RC helicopters I have. A remote with 1/2" tall sticks is frustrating. I have been using Kontrol Freaks controller accessories with some of my games and the improvement is HUGE. Much MUCH easier to make small controller inputs.
I guess it's one of the reasons why a wheel can be preferred also because the same principal of physics apply with an even larger platform for inputting your small steering requests.

I thought the lower the number the more the stering gear box feels worn out.I have been a control user from ps1.Small movements relax remember to breath. It may sound funny but you can only control the car so much.I use 7 for my setting and that is coming from a 51year old

No i use the X/Y axis.

Using smaller values for sensitivity. I assume that is down?

Depends how u are used to, triggers work for me (u can even use brake&throttle at the same time).

I definitely think that a wheel is a great idea for me, but a wheel set up where I play games would look hideous. So I might get a wheel and pedals and strip a broken car of a seat for my PC. I plan on getting Richard Burns Rally and Project CARS for PC, plus it's nigh impossible to play a driving game with keyboard and mouse anyway.

I got my stars and the Audi for finishing S level with a DS3 and default buttons, I'm surprised you find the AI difficult as the rabbits slow down quite a bit. The Red Bulls and go carts are tough but not the end of the world. S level is more planning and pit tactics than speed, and car choice helps with speed.

ds3 default buttons since GT1. not a board leader, but the AI is still no match with the right set up. its mostly in your skill, secondly your hardware.

I used a controller all the way up until midway through gt5's life. I was pretty good with it I suppose. A few times guys remarked about how I could drive with a controller. My friends got wheels and once they figured them out I was outclassed in about a week. I now use a wheel and can say what I can do now I couldn't with a controller.

Also fwiw I had a lot of issues with some of the higher level racing and it was mostly because of 2 things. Camber and MR chassis(s). MR's have since been tweaked and are driveable but camber is still broken and the more I add the worse every car gets. When I 0'd out all camber settings my cars were much better

I haven't tried the ps3 controller since i found it would be impossible to keep control with the small handle. I use a flight controller stick. I'm surprised some of you can get good results with the ps3.

Allow me to make a suggestion, try the DS3. Use L2 for brake, R2 for gas, left stick to steer. L1 R1 shift up and down. controller sensitivity up to you. Then try 1 event with several different cars as car choice may be the issue or maybe your tune for said car. I have only ever used Ds3 and it can be very rewarding when you are as fast as some wheel users. Takes a little time to get the feel for it if you have been using something other but should not take too long.

GOOD LUCK.

Thanks. I will give it a try.
As A long time ds3 user I found using using the left stick for steering and right for throttle/brake works best for me. This isolates the major inputs to each hand and I can coordinate them well. I find the analogue sensitivity particularly on throttle/brake easier imo. Change position of my thumb to improve small inputs. Can't trail brake though which I've read is faster still. Don't give up I've golded everything licences etc except for the last red bull event and made top 1000 a few times on time trials. Even competitive online but against a very good player with a wheel it's tough. Practice makes perfect and I've seen some ds3 users very high on leaderboards. Good luck.
