Qualifying? Not being a wiseass, but do you watch any racing on TV?

A day or two before the race starts, each car gets a few laps to run solo. The driver with the fastest time gets to start first on the grid (also known as "the pole"), and each car after that is placed in the order of their time. This puts the quickest cars at the front so the field spreads out better at the start.

In GT3 you can run qualifying laps to set your position the same way.

hhhmmmmmm

watch the next f1 or touring car race...then you will know what qualifying is. usually occurs the day before the race starts

Hmm, while were on this topic, does annyone accually qualify? i sure dont, my car is usually fast enought to not need to qualify.

its not like gt1 where u get a prize for pole position...so no..i dont...well i did but thats when i found out u dont get a prize...

The only time I qualify for a race is when i'm shooting for a race record. If not then I dont bother to qualify for a race since I know the ai wont be a challenge.

nice posts guys. not a single answer among all of you.

PS2 GT3:

qualifying is a way of determining grid order. formats may vary but basically whoever has the fastest time on the course gets 1st position, second fastest gets second, so on and so forth.

if you notice in GT3 you start at the back. if you do the qualifying and have faster times than some of the other cars, you'll be placed ahead of those cars when starting the race.

um...If you actually read the thread Neon Duke answeed this in the very first post

Don't forget, you can run as many laps as you want, until you get the pole position.

ok ok from what I heard is that you do a couple of laps for warming up but the racer with the best time get's to go first
at the starting grid am I right??

Yep, fastest lap gets to start in pole (first), you can do as many laps as you want as Solid just said.

what if you are first on the grid and you quit will it count as if
you won 1st?

you still have to do the race it's just that you start the race in 1st position. If you come 2nd in the race but qualify 1st.. you come 2nd

On the "who qualifies?" question, I usually am swithcing between racing classes, hence switching cars. Qualify is an excellent time to tune your car (you can exit Qualify, go to Settings and go back to Qualify) or just get used to it before the big race. That's what I see qualifying as in GT3...

when I use to quit when I was in 6th it use to give me the points
as if I won 6th .....ever think you start 1st you end first?

No, it doesn't work that way. But you will deny the second-place car first-place points.

If you got the win just for taking the pole and then quitting the race, no race in GT3 would ever have to be longer than one lap.

and that's why I don't qualify in races.

If qualifying was done lke it was in GT1 and you got a pole position bonus then I might do it once in a while.

I rarely qualify because it gives so little of a gain, and when you go if the line. the AI usually bashes you in the first corner resulting in getting bumped to last.
