Qualifying question

Is it normal that GT3 allows me to make as many qualifying laps as I want? For me to end qualifying I have to exit manually. Is this because I only have an amateur license? This didn't seem quite as realistic as the rest of the game, but I'm probably just doing something wrong. Thanks-

You can qualify as long as you want. There is no time limit.

And welcome to GTP:)

AFAIK, you can qualify until you fall asleep in pursuit of better times. You aren't doing anything wrong! It's very confusing, too, because when you hit the Start button, it says "EXIT RACE" which you would think meant that you are giving up on that race entirely.

Welcome to GTP. It's a pretty good group here. Enjoy your stay, and learn something, and teach us something!

Dang! MIH treed me.
But I got the first welcome in!

thanks for the fast replies. that was confusing me... seems qualifying is the best way to learn a new course.

It is indeed a very good way to learn a track. And also a good way to decide if you chose the right car for the race:)

I frequently follow the AI cars as they qualify to see what they are doing where. Plus it gives you plenty of time to see that your car is on par with the competition, like MIH said. I will usually try a race anytime I can qualify 3rd or better. If I'm on the pole by more than about a second, I either detune my car a little, or else exit and restart the race without qualifying so I begin in 6th and have to work through traffic for the lead.

Remember, also that in a long series you want to qualify fairly quickly, as you don't want too many extra miles to ad up before the need for an oil change, and the drop in HP.

In my first days I used to do the three qualifying laps, then I just did one, but of course I can get to three if I dont get the best time.

I dont ever qualify but if I do I will just settle with second or third because I know I will catch the leader no matter what. I only qualify when Im driving a slower car.

i think that i've been noticing that my tires do not grip as well as the race goes on. if this is what's happening, this game is even more realistic than i thought. man, this thing's addictive.

...must stop playing gt3... must get some work done...

in races where tire wear is on (there will be a visual representation of the 4 tires at the bottom left of the screen), tires loose their grip as they go from green (warmed up) to red (total tread wear). at the start of the race, tires will be blue (not warmed up), until they are brought up to temperature.

in races where there is no tire wear, tires maintain maximum grip throughout the race

i hounestly dont think i have ever qualified before... i see no reason too... i can save 2 mins and start in the back row, a whole 2 secs behind the leader, and just catch up on the initial straight away...

That's assuming, of course, that you've got a big enough HP advantage to beat the field in a drag race. Some of us don't run that way (at least not all the time).
