The way I see it, the less time I spend banging fenders with backmarkers the better, especially on courses with a sharp turn near the beginning. I'll take the extra two laps if it gets me up front where I can race with clean track, and make sure the front cars don't get a chance to pull away.

Plus I can also determine whether or not my car is up to par with the competition, so I don't have to waste five or ten minutes in a race where I stay 3 seconds behind the field all the time. (I have never ever quit out of a race in progress just because I wasn't going to win, that's poor sportsmanship.)
